Ubud is an enchanting destination, not only for spiritual wanderers but also for couples looking for a romantic escape. There is much to be enjoyed among the majestically terraced rice fields that surround this Balinese gem.
The following eight romantic activities take you from secluded bliss to trust building exercises and the best part is everything you do, you’ll be doing it together.
There’s nothing too glamorous about waking up at 2am, but it’s a small price to pay for the experience of watching the sunrise over Mount Abang and Mount Agung.
Mount Batur is an active volcano (it’s been 16 years since it last erupted) soaring 1700 meters above sea level. It is the third highest peak across the island and deemed sacred in the Hindu religion. The climb doesn’t require a high level of fitness, but the encouraging hand of your partner will ease the on average two-hour trek upward. To aid the entire process you can book through an agency and have a guide take you to the top.
Hint: It’s the perfect place to pop the question.
You’ll need some time to relax and unwind after your round trek of Mount Batur. Sooth your muscles in the natural volcanic hot springs just 15 minutes from the base of the trek.
The hot springs have been built to enhance the natural elements, where waterfalls create a massaging effect. You can stand underneath and continue to absorb the majestic vistas around you and appreciate from afar how far you have walked.
The facilities at the hot springs aren’t in prime condition (as is the way for most Balinese landmarks), so best to come prepared with all of the amenities you require to fully enjoy this experience.
Como Shambala is the ultimate health and wellness retreat. Located just 15 minutes from the heart of Ubud and set among hectares of lush jungle terrain, it even boasts its own waterfall. Como Shambala is about as close to nature as one can get. You and your lover can immerse yourself in a pure state of relaxation and enjoy one of their healing spa treatments. Out of the nine treatment rooms, three are made for couples making it the perfect place to hang your hats for an hour, if not a day or two.

It’s not all raw and vegan food in Ubud, Locavore brings a unique food experience to the region. Serving sustainably sourced local ingredients, the menu changes regularly depending on what is in season. Locavore is easily one of the best restaurants on the island, which won’t seem like such a bold statement once you experience it yourself. It is a good enough reason to visit Ubud all on its own.
We recommend pairing drinks to the degustation menu – the cocktails are a work of art. Enjoy an intimate dining experience at Locavore, the restaurant has a very calm and relaxing ambience in a beautifully refined and modern space. Make sure you book well in advance.

Acro Yoga is described as a joyful journey where fun, trust and loving kindness become one. What’s more romantic than that?
The Yoga Barn in Ubud is an institution. Yogis come from far and wide to experience The Yoga Barn and many don’t leave for a while. You and your partner can join in on the group yoga classes offered at Yoga Barn or request a private class with one of the teachers. We recommend asking for Carlos Romero or Bex Tyre. There is no partner or acrobatic experience needed, the true test will be whether you can fully let yourself go and place all trust in your partner!

Pica is a tiny hole-in-the-wall South American restaurant in the bustling hub of Ubud. Dim lighting sets the mood for a romantic dinner for two. The restaurant is so small you’ll want to book ahead to secure your spot. From traditional ceviche to moreish meats, Pica brings the best of South American cuisine to the burgeoning food scene in Ubud.
