An oldie but a goodie, Lapland is the original home of Santa Claus – so where better to hand-deliver your Christmas list? Celebrate everything St Nick at Santa Claus Village, Lapland’s legendary amusement park where guests can enjoy husky and reindeer rides, snowmobile tours and of course, meet the big guy himself. What’s more, in Northern Lapland between September and March, you might even experience the added magic of the Northern Lights.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo may not be the obvious choice for the festive season, but did you know that every December the city is transformed into a winter wonderland with breathtaking illuminations? While Christmas itself isn’t celebrated in Japan, they certainly get into the festive spirit. Trees sparkle with millions of tiny lights and incredible LED displays can be found in destinations such as Omotesando, Marunouchi, Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown. Make the most of Tokyo’s world-class shopping where you can soak up the festive vibes, or if you really want the most magical of Christmases – head to the Tokyo Disney Resort.

Even the most reluctant of grinches would find it hard not to get into the Christmas spirit in New York. Go ice skating beneath the Rockerfeller tree, be dazzled by the Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular Show at Radio City Music Hall, gaze in amazement at the legendary displays at the city’s iconic department stores, go for a horse-and-carriage ride through a frost-dusted Central Park, and THEN try to tell us you don’t feel Christmassy – we dare you.

There’s something particularly special about Christmas in Europe, where the ground glitters with frost and the promise of a white Christmas dances on the air. Get into the festive spirit by shopping with the masses under the twinkling lights of Regent Street, Oxford Street and Bond Street, enjoy ice skating followed by a warming mulled wine at Somerset House, shop the traditional Bavarian Christmas market and ride the big wheel at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and get all fancy with an indulgent Christmas afternoon tea at Claridge’s, whose Christmas tree is nothing short of legendary.
