Treetop Pool Villas & Underwater Wonders: Inside Amilla Maldives

Amilla Maldives offers the best of both worlds: treetop pool villas high above the coconut palms and its own spectacular Blue Hole beneath the waves.

Amilla feels like a glimpse of the Maldives of old, with thick groves of coconut jungle, white-sand beaches and enough hidden spots to make exploring part of the fun. Its 67 villas and residences each have a private pool, whether they’re set on the sand, over the water or among the treetops. The award-winning resort feels secluded yet brimming with possibility.

The temptation is to unpack, stay put and enjoy your sprawling villa. But beyond your terrace, shaded cycling paths lead to quiet beaches, the house reef promises some of the archipelago’s best diving and snorkelling opportunities and the all-inclusive dining plan roams from burrata-topped pizza to mango sticky rice. You’ll want time for all of it.

You’ll want to take the long way to lunch

A three-kilometre walking and cycling circuit winds beneath Amilla’s jungle canopy. Hop on a bicycle and follow it through the greenery, stopping when a glimpse of white sand calls for a detour.

Across the island, mature coconut palms mingle with sea almonds and screwpines, while hibiscus, bougainvillea and frangipani bring colour to the foliage. Some of that greenery ends up on your plate: a banana plantation, hydroponic garden and mushroom hut help supply the kitchens, driving the resort’s approach to customisable, produce-driven dining.

The resort has a celebrated house reef with its own Blue Hole

Amilla’s house reef is reason enough to visit. A part of the greater Baa Atoll’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, its depths shelter turtles, reef sharks and schools of tropical fish. A favourite of professional divers and curious honeymooners alike, Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2026 placed it among the Maldives’ top eight house reefs.

A true highlight is the reef’s own Blue Hole, where you can look down over coral formations and the prismatic schools of fish gathering around them. Join a guided snorkelling excursion to explore it up close.

Your private pool villa comes with plenty of space…

Amilla’s pool villas start at 220 square metres of combined indoor and outdoor space, with dedicated living areas and private pools throughout.

In a Water Pool Villa, a lagoon hammock adds another inviting place to do very little. Keen snorkellers should consider a Reef Water Pool Villa for direct ocean access beside the reef. For families who prefer sand underfoot, the Two Bedroom Beach Pool Villas sprawl across 530 square metres and open straight onto the beach. There’s room to gather everyone together (and retreat with a cocktail, book or both when you need a break).

… and some villas are set among the treetops

Amilla’s Two Bedroom Treetop Pool Villas bring a different perspective to the Maldives. Climb the exterior staircase into the coconut canopy, where a secluded balcony and sweeping island panoramas give the feeling of being a pirate atop a crow’s nest. Tropical birdsong outside only adds to the fantasy.

You still have a place on the sand: treetop villa stays include access to a reserved beach area. Spend the morning in the sea, then return for a swim among the palms.

You’ll have more than one favourite dinner spot

At Barolo, homemade pasta and Italian cooking draw on produce from the organic garden. East moves between Indian tandoors and the flavours of China and Thailand, while Tessera serves Arabian-inspired sharing plates. For a casual lunch between swims, there’s Joe’s Pizza.

That variety gives Amilla’s all-inclusive programme its appeal. Lunch can follow a morning on the reef; dinner can become the evening’s main event. Unlimited free-flow drinks and a minibar replenished daily make the hours between meals equally easy.
