One of the most in-demand resorts in the Maldives, Seaside Finolhu has a number of unique experiences that sees it frequented by A-list celebrities. Here you can sleep in a bubble on the beach, snorkel with manta rays or book the villa favoured by rock stars.

What do the Beckhams, Leonardo DiCaprio and Nicole Scherzinger have in common? They’ve all enjoyed a stay at one of the Maldives’ most loved resorts: Seaside Finolhu Baa Atoll.

The attraction for major celebrities is more than just the coral atoll, the overwater villas and the local marine life, Seaside Finolhu likes to do things a little differently.

Yes, it has classic Maldivian-style luxury, azure waters and fine dining for days, but you can also explore the longest sandbar in the Maldives, sleep in a transparent bubble on the foreshore and ride around on a personal buggy.

Here are six reasons Seaside Finolhu should be your next stay in the Maldives.

1. It has the longest sandbar of any resort in the Maldives

Named Finolhu after the word sandbank in dhivehi, the local Maldivian language, this resort boasts two kilometres of beaches across four islands – including the longest sandbar of any Maldivian resort. Seaside Finolhu houses a unique Crab Shack dining concept where guests stroll across the sandbank, or take a quick ride in dhoni – a traditional wooden boat – to the palm-tree-thatched roof of the resort’s fresh seafood pop-up. Watch the sea lap the shore as you sample soft shell crab tacos and salmon ceviche while sipping cocktails.

2. You can sleep in a bubble on the beach

One of the best things to do in the Maldives is stargazing, due to the lack of light pollution, and one of the best places to do it is in Seaside Finolhu’s luxurious beach bubble tucked away behind the Crab Shack. The bubble is a temperature-regulated pod featuring wooden floors, a double bed and a private shower and toilet. Spend the night in this transparent sphere, gazing at the stars through your ceiling. Your beach bubble stay also comes with a private sunset beach barbecue and a sunrise breakfast on the sand.

3. The Rockstar Villa comes with its own buggy & Marshall sound system

True indulgence awaits those who check into this luxurious two-bedroom villa. Step across a walkway over the ocean and into the rockstar lifestyle. Spanning a whopping 460 square metres, this villa boasts two spacious master bedrooms, a generous eight-metre infinity pool, a private bar, cabana swing, Marshall sound system (any self-respecting rockstar’s brand of choice) and a personal buggy. This isn’t simply one of Finolhu’s best villas, but may be one of the best in the Maldives.

4. It’s had a seriously star-spangled guest list

It’s not hard to see why Seaside Finolhu’s four pristine islands, long beaches, overwater villas and four diverse restaurants have drawn attention. So much so that this destination is not only award-winning (listed as one of the Maldives’ best by Conde Nast Traveller), but has also welcomed a plethora of famous faces to its shores. The Beckhams, Cara Delevingne, Leonardo DiCaprio and most recently Nicole Scherzinger are just a start to the long list of A-listers who have checked in.

5. It was the first resort in the Maldives to become a Design Hotels member

Seaside Finolhu was the Maldives’ first-ever resort to become a member of the Design Hotels group. Successfully meeting the criteria for design, architecture and hospitality, it joins an international collection of one-of-a-kind properties across the world. Award-winning design studio Muza Lab have begun redesigning elements of the property to highlight the incredible location and add a touch of vibrant colour.

6. It’s located close to the only UNESCO Biosphere in the Maldives

Seaside Finolhu enjoys a privileged position close to Hanifaru Bay – the Maldives’ one and only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, in the east Baa Atoll. What makes this protected spot so special is that it attracts some of the largest numbers of manta rays in the world, drawn to the high concentration of plankton in the vicinity. Known for its vibrant reefs, diverse aquatic life and unique underwater hills known as thilas, it’s a snorkeller’s paradise – if you’re lucky you can even spot whale sharks here mid-year.
