With its eclectic art scene, quirky cafes and focus on all-around wellbeing, Ubud has fast become the wellness capital of Bali. Yogis come for their fix of sunrise stretches, health-food fanatics will always find a new vegan hotspot to try and spa savants can take their pick of luxurious treatments. If you’re looking for an escape with a touch of tropical TLC, check out our collection of Ubud’s best wellness retreats.
Unwind to the soundtrack of the sacred Ayung River from this lavish wellness retreat, set in the heart of Ubud’s lush rainforest. Nandini Jungle by Hanging Gardens has been curated for relaxation and healing – from the dreamy villas overlooking the jungle canopy to the serene restaurant, which uses fresh, organic produce grown in the resort garden.
Wellness experiences draw on the Ayung River’s spiritual energy: guided meditations use the sound of the river to invite balance; purification ceremonies use sacred river water to cleanse mind, body and spirit; and soothing spa sessions are performed in riverside, open-air pavilions to harness the river’s healing power. For optimal results, curated wellness packages offer four transformative days of yoga, meditation, spa treatments and nourishing meals.
For those seeking a holistic wellness experience in a tranquil setting, five-star The Samaya Ubud Bali is the ultimate choice. Just 15 minutes from the heart of Ubud village, this serene retreat features just 19 private pool villas, each designed in harmony with the surroundings, so it feels a world away from the bustle of Bali.
While indulgent treatments await at the blissful The Spa by Samaya (where the riverside couple’s room is a favourite among honeymooners), the wellness journey extends far beyond the spa. Embark on guided treks through the surrounding rice fields, embrace mindfulness with daily yoga sessions and refuel with fresh juices and nourishing fare at the open-air restaurant, which uses produce grown in the onsite garden.
This five-star sanctuary has garnered global attention for its ultra-luxurious wellness offerings, including being named in Tatler’s Top 3 Best Wellness Resorts in Asia. Thoughtfully situated in spiritual alignment with four key Balinese temples, COMO Shambhala Estate offers a holistic healing experience deeply rooted in local energy and tradition.
Book a personalised wellness journey guided by in-house experts, tailored to your goals – from nutritional therapy and physical fitness to stress relief and sleep optimisation. Programs combine modern health-tech treatments and ancient healing practices, all complemented by nourishing cuisine. Between sessions, deepen your practice at the jungle-fringed yoga pavilion, soak in natural springwater pools or explore the healing power of native Balinese botanicals.
I originally chose COMO Shambhala Estate for its beautiful architecture and serene natural setting. Unfortunately, the recent renovations have significantly damaged the original aesthetic of the property.
The original rooms were elegant and full of character, but COMO failed to preserve that beauty. Simple yet important details were replaced with cheap alternatives bamboo blinds were swapped for plastic roller blinds, and the bathroom vanity was changed to low quality IKEA style laminated wood. Instead of maintaining the soul of the architecture, COMO chose to renovate, and that was a big mistake.
Service is inconsistent. The front desk and butler team are warm and welcoming, which is appreciated. However, the restaurant service is clearly below standard. Staff appear unmotivated and inattentive, which greatly affects the dining experience.
Housekeeping is also disappointing. Cleaning is not thorough, and bed linens are poorly arranged, which is unacceptable at this price point.
While the natural environment is undeniably beautiful, this is true for most of Ubud. At this price level, there are many better options that offer stronger service, better maintenance, and a more refined experience.
Overall, COMO Shambhala Estate does not deliver the quality expected for its price. I would not recommend it. If you have experienced brands like Four Seasons or Aman, you can safely skip COMO, it still falls short of true luxury.
Kappa Senses Ubud
French sophistication meets Balinese spirituality at Kappa Senses Ubud, a five-star hideaway set within the verdant jungle. Wake to soft chants from nearby temples, listen for the soothing sounds of the Ayung River and gaze out across lush rice fields surrounded by gently swaying coconut palms.
The jewel in the crown of this luxurious resort is OmTara Spa by Clarins, a world-class wellness centre by the renowned French brand. Detoxify in the infrared sauna, improve circulation in the Turkish-inspired hammam or experience the benefits of a Vichy shower – a hydrotherapy treatment designed to mimic gentle rain. Awaken your senses with an intensely hydrating facial or exfoliating body ritual, before refuelling with farm-to-table fare at one of three restaurants, using organic produce grown in the resort garden.
Unfortunately, I had to postpone my stay at this hotel due to a family emergency. The manager of this hotel was so kind to grant me to stay at a later date rather tham cancelling my booking altogether. I am looking forward to stay at this hotel next year April. LE staff were extremely professional, compassionate and helpful to me. I can recommend LE to anyone who wants to look for a luxury escape.

Kappa Senses is probably our best stay ever. The staff are absolutely amazing, both the trainees like Diah and the more experienced staff. So helpful, warm, welcoming, smiley, and attentive to a level we haven’t experienced before.
The resort gardens are stunning, like being amongst botanical gardens. Even the garden staff are exceptional – naming plants and flowers for us, explaining herbal and medicinal uses, and we thoroughly enjoyed the permaculture tour.
The food was incredible and so much choice! Presentation and quality was outstanding, we were blown away.
The free shuttle is a great bonus too!
Kappa Senses is a little way out from the super busy part of Ubud, and we loved the bit of seclusion. Magical location beside lush green rice fields in amongst incredible trees and tropical gardens.
We had an absolutely wonderful time and wholeheartedly recommend Kappa Senses.
The Luxury Escapes package was an exceptional deal too.
Loved it, AAA+++!

The Viceroy is amazing and met all our expectations. The Villa was beautiful as was the overall resort. The food was great and the service impeccable. We wouldn't hesitate to come back and can highly recommend.

The Purist Villas and Spa
It’s all in the name: The Purist Villas and Spa is a place of pure indulgence. Surrounded by rice paddies, it feels worlds away from day-to-day life, while being only five minutes from the centre of town. The Purist Spa sits elevated over the sparkling swimming pool and offers a range of specialised Ayurveda treatments. Often referred to as the ‘sister science to yoga’, Ayurveda aims to keep mind and body balanced and healthy. Complement treatments by joining one of the resort’s yoga sessions, with both beginner and advanced options available.
A beautiful resort, lovely rooms, and the staff are just outstanding! They made us feel so welcome and comfortable. In particular, a heartfelt thank you to all the staff in the restaurant who went above and beyond to cater for our fussy kids and created a great dining experience every time. We loved our stay so much!

I call this a “heavenly villa.” We stayed for three nights, and from the moment we stepped into the hotel, we were completely blown away. It is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and incredibly comfortable. If I could, I would give it 12 out of 10!
The service was also exceptional. Whenever we went out, the staff would clean our room and even put mosquito-repellent incense and aromatherapy in the room for us.
Rainforest mosquitis are unavoidable. The hotel genuinely does everything they can to keep them under control. During our entire stay, my daughter was the only one who got a few mosquito bites.
If I had to mention one small downside, the furniture is perhaps a little on the older side. However, I personally love the rustic, aged, natural style, so it didn’t bother us at all.
We absolutely loved our stay and would happily come back again. A truly magical place!
