Sofitel Melbourne on Collins Brings the Razzle Dazzle with Official Chicago Partnership
As part of its official tie-in with the Melbourne musical, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins has transformed its bar with killer cocktails themed around the play’s main characters.
Blockbuster Broadway musical Chicago is back on stage in Melbourne starring Zoe Ventoura as Velma Kelly and Lucy Maunder as Roxie Hart – the fame hungry murderesses at the heart of the show – and Australian stage legend Anthony Warlow as their lawyer Billy Flynn who is not afraid of using a bit showmanship to get his clients off the hook.
There’s some extra class afoot at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, too, the official hotel partner of Chicago. The hotel has turned its already-showstopping signature bar, Atrium on 35, into a Chicago-themed speakeasy with cocktails named for some of the musical’s biggest stars. The Roxie pairs Ketel One vodka with the sweetness of raspberry jam and some tartness from fresh lime, while the Velma is a gin-based cocktail with blueberry and grapefruit bitters. Or, for those who want more kick than a Chicago chorus line, try the Mama (named for jailer Mama Morton) that has a Herradura tequila base with lime, chilli and thyme.
“We are thrilled to be Official Hotel Partner of CHICAGO and look forward to welcoming guests who are coming to the Melbourne production,” said Matt Andraws, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins acting general manager. “The producers have assembled a star-studded cast to bring this story to life and we are adding a little bit of extra Razzle Dazzle to create a truly memorable experience for theatre-lovers.”
The hotel also offers accommodation packages for out-of-towners flying in for a show and is just a short walk from Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Sofitel Sydney Wentworth and Sofitel Adelaide have also been named as Official Hotel Partners when Chicago travels to those cities after its Melbourne season.
