The StandardX, Melbourne Opening in Fitzroy in February 2024

There’s nothing standard about the brand-new The StandardX. Opening in Melbourne’s Fitzroy in February 2024, this hotel is the first of its kind in the world.

Melbourne’s hotel scene is set to welcome a cool newcomer in 2024 with the opening of The StandardX, the younger sibling of parent brand The Standard. The luxe latter already has outposts in the Maldives, New York, Bangkok, Hua Hin, London and Ibiza, and the opening of The StandardX in Melbourne’s Fitzroy sees the brand return to its youthful roots.

The 125 carefully curated rooms range from intimate Cosy King to spacious Suite Spot, all bedecked with the thoughtful artistic touches, minimalist design, and emphasis on low-key luxury. The hotel’s shared spaces are dressed with pieces from local artists.

Interiors are from the creative minds of renowned Melbourne design firm Hecker Guthrie, with considered nods to the hotel’s Fitzroy postcode. This is, after all, a suburb known for its artistic identity and rebellious spirit that harks back to the 1970s and 80s.

Guests will also have exclusive access to The Roof restaurant, serving panoramic city views alongside Mexican cuisine and tequila-filled cocktails. Bang, on the ground floor, will showcase vibrant Thai street food flavours.

Other upcoming hotels from The Standard include new openings in Bangkok (another StandardX) as well as Singapore, Lisbon, Brussels and Dublin.
