This Award-Winning Cook Islands Resort is Steps From One of the World’s Best Lagoons

One of the world’s most beautiful lagoons and just 29 thatched-roof beachfront bungalows and villas: here’s what makes this Cook Islands resort the perfect escape.

A 45-minute flight north of Rarotonga, Pacific Resort Aitutaki sits directly on the western rim of one of the most celebrated lagoons in the world. This award-winning hideaway – the archipelago’s only member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World Collection – features a sparkling infinity pool and a restaurant all at a pace that’s entirely your own. Here’s what you can expect when you check in.

There’s a lagoon that’s unlike anywhere else in the Pacific

Aitutaki’s lagoon is a triangular, reef-enclosed expanse scattered with 15 uninhabited coral islets (called motu). It’s shallow, pristine, calm and shark-free, making it one of the safest and most spectacular places to swim, snorkel and kayak in the Pacific. Pacific Resort occupies the lagoon’s western rim, where the colour and light are at their best. Twenty minutes offshore, One Foot Island holds the world’s only post office on an uninhabited island – get your passport stamped as proof you made it.

It’s home to the archipelago’s best restaurant

Rapae Bay Restaurant won the World Culinary Awards Cook Islands Best Restaurant 2025 (for the fourth year running) and serves fresh Pacific seafood on an open lagoon-view terrace. For something more casual, Black Rock Bar sits directly on Amuri Beach and offers cocktails, snacks and front-row views of the sun going down.

Active or idle – there’s adventure aplenty

The Aitutaki lagoon is home to some of the largest bonefish in the Pacific, and between May and October the trade winds make the waters near Honeymoon Island ideal for kitesurfing. Complimentary kayaks and snorkel gear are included, and the resort’s self-guided eco-aquatic trail is a non-motorised route through the lagoon’s marine life. The full-day lagoon cruise visits the outer motu and stops at One Foot Island – it’s a short hike up Maunga Pu, Aitutaki’s highest point. Explore other things to do in the Cook Islands here.

Spa, pool, zero schedule

Tiare Spa offers hot stone massages, aromatherapy and beauty treatments, while the palm-fringed infinity pool and Black Rock Bar handle the rest of your day. Every Wednesday evening, live Cook Island drumming, guitar and ukulele provide the only scheduled entertainment.

Sustainability runs deep

Pacific Resort operates under the Cook Islands’ Mana Tiaki ethos of guardianship: single-use, plastic-free, rainwater harvested onsite and an active coral restoration project running in partnership with the Pacific Islands Conservation Initiative.
