There’s something undeniably enchanting about a white Christmas in Europe. The air is perpetually spiced with the scent of gingerbread, buildings twinkle with strings of fairy lights and Christmas carols sing in the breeze. Spend your time wandering through some of Europe’s best Christmas markets in Munich, Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Mainz and Frankfurt, perusing stalls that sell everything from hand-carved ornaments to piping hot mugs of Glühwein and giant pretzels.
During the fast-paced festive season, you’ll find moments of serenity amid age-old landscapes. Take a cable car tour through the breathtaking Black Forest, join a river cruise along the Rhine, where you’ll admire the everchanging river scenery, and explore postcard-perfect towns like Heidelberg, where castles, historic squares and family-owned vineyards are in abundance. The best part? All these experiences are accompanied by local food and wine. Think a Bavarian foodie tour in Munich, tapas while you soar over the Black Forest, lunch along the Rhine and wine tasting at a local vineyard.
Your tour begins at Munich International Airport (MUC) and ends at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) with roundtrip airport transfers.

Day 1: Arrive Munich
Touch down in Munich, the Bavarian capital and a true winter wonderland, and let the festive spirit take hold. You’ll be met at the airport (MUC) and transferred to Le Méridien Munich, where you can check in and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Enjoy time to relax after your flight or hit the streets and admire the Christmas lights and incredible festive displays. Tonight, a welcome dinner is a perfect opportunity to meet your tour manager and fellow travellers.

Day 2: Munich
Get to know the heart and soul of Munich on a full-day guided city tour. Stop by the Olympic Stadium in the heart of Olympiapark, host of the 1972 Summer Olympics. Continue to the breathtaking Baroque-style Nymphenburg Palace for a quick photo stop. Admire the stunning architecture and immaculate grounds of the former summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria. As you’re guided through the city, pass countless museums, galleries, palaces and historic monuments on route to Marienplatz. The square is regarded as the cultural hub of the city, with the Town Hall and ornate Glockenspiel at its centre.
Feeling peckish? For lunch, a Bavarian delicacies tour is on the menu. This hearty cuisine is perfect for wintertime feasts; from plates of sausages and smoked pork chops to Flädle (German pancakes) and Allgäu mountain cheese, gain a true taste of authentic Bavarian food. Tonight, the coloured lights and scent of candied nuts and gingerbread lure you to Munich’s world-famous Christmas markets.

Day 3: Munich — Oberammergau — Innsbruck
Rise and shine for an exciting voyage to the fairytale Linderhof Palace. Continue to Oberammergau, a charming village nestled in the shadows of the Ammergauer Alps. This village is home to the world-renowned Oberammergau Passion Play — a performance of the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ, is performed every 10 years.
It’s time to say a temporary ‘auf Wiedersehen’ to Germany as you cross into Austria. Arrive in Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital of the Austrian Alps. Uncover centuries of fascinating history and Imperial splendour through architectural gems hailed from the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical periods. It’s here you’ll visit the 15th-century Golden Roof, an iconic symbol of the city, the Triumphbogen and Wilten Basilica, one of the city’s spellbinding churches.

Day 4: Innsbruck — Black Forest
Discover the enchanting landscape of the Black Forest, a moody forest nestled by the Schauinsland mountain range. Embark on a cable car ride over this picturesque terrain and enjoy panoramic views over the thick forest canopy, lush meadows and undulating valleys. This experience is made more memorable as you feast on an array of delicious tapas. Head north on a scenic bus drive towards your accommodation, passing dense forests of thick pine trees and picturesque traditional homes with long sloping roofs.

Day 5: Black Forest — Strasbourg — Black Forest
Today, travel to Strasbourg, a city straddling the border of France and Germany. Be sure to pay a visit to the Cathédrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg before joining a walking tour to La Petite France district. Explore the local shops, charming bistros and Place Kléber, a large historic square.
Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring this UNESCO World Heritage-listed city at your own pace. Here, you’ll find France’s oldest Christmas market. Comb the stalls, tasting tiny traditional cakes (bredele), hunting for trinkets and souvenirs, sipping mulled wine and snacking on gingerbread. Meanwhile, the towering Christmas tree and stalls are aglow with festive lights and decorations.

Day 6: Black Forest — Heidelberg — Mainz — Frankfurt
Your next stop is Heidelberg, a picturesque town located between the Neckar River and Odenwald forest. The first thing to do is visit the imposing red sandstone ruins of the mighty Heidelberg Castle. This 12th-century masterpiece is perched on the slopes of the Königstuhl hill and holds a long and tumultuous history. Wander its terrace and admire sweeping views before exploring the Old Town. The square is buzzing with festive cheer thanks to a vibrant Christmas market. Be sure to wander through and sample some candied almonds and slurp Glühwein while checking out the handmade toys, ornaments and jewellery.
Spend the afternoon tasting wine at a local and privately owned vineyard nearby Bingen before continuing to Mainz along the Rhine River. Walk through the restored historic centre towards the Weihnachtsmarkt, featuring stalls selling roasted almonds, gingerbread and chestnuts plus homemade garlands, straw stars, tree decorations, wooden toys, carvings, ceramics, candles and much more. End the day in Frankfurt.

Day 7: Frankfurt
The day kickstarts with a scenic cruise along the Rhine River. Sit back, relax and soak in stunning vistas of hilltop castles, terraced vineyards and villages of timber-framed houses along the riverbank. Keep your camera on hand as you pass the mighty Lorelei rock, rising vertically from the water. Pass several castles along the Rhine, before stopping to enjoy a decadent Christmas lunch with wine.
Later, you might like to enjoy the magic of one last Christmas market before a farewell dinner with your tour manager and fellow travellers this evening.
