Start your morning with a gourmet buffet breakfast at Sunset Bar & Grill then bid farewell to Broome and venture along the red dirt of the Gibb River Road, one of Australia’s most unique 4WD tracks, to the geological wonder of Windjana Gorge. Towering 300 metres above the Lennard River, this 375 million-year-old Devonian reef is embedded with ancient marine fossils and surrounded by freshwater pools which freshwater crocodiles call home. Flourishing native trees host flocks of birds, fruit bats, and songful corellas. Enjoy a short stroll through this natural masterpiece, spotting wildlife and taking in the incredible scenery.

After a hearty home-style breakfast, head back onto the Gibb River Road towards Bell Gorge, an ancient gorge created by the west-flowing waters of the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges. Cascades formed by the rain during the wet season sculpt the striking sandstone cliffs creating a series of tiered waterholes. Surrounded by ledges and sheltered rocky walls, the deep pool at the base of the falls is the perfect place to take a plunge and cool off from the Kimberley sun. Alternatively, find a shady place to rest and enjoy a spot of birdwatching — keep an eye out for rainbow bee-eaters, little finches, and more. Keen hikers might like to explore the gorge’s varied walking tracks, while photography enthusiasts will enjoy capturing what nature has to offer.

The next stop on your journey is the incredible Boab Prison Tree. This remarkable tree — believed to be more than 1,500 years old, and measuring a massive 14 metres in diameter — was once used by early police patrols as a standing point for prisoners as they were walked to Derby.
