Day 1: Arrive Vancouver

Welcome to Vancouver, an easy-going waterfront city that revels in a two-for-one deal with nature — mild temperatures at sea level, frosty alpine fun on the easy-to-reach mountain peaks. Meet your local representative on arrival at Vancouver Airport (YVR), where you will be transferred to your hotel — The Sutton Palace Hotel Vancouver — set against a majestic backdrop of mountains and sea, and located in the heart of the city.

Walkable Vancouver earns its title as one of the world’s most liveable cities and the locals love getting outdoors, whatever the weather. If you have time, why not get out and hit the fresh air for a walk or cycle around the Stanley Park seawall — a paved walkway with spectacular views of the city, ocean and mountains? Or explore the famous shopping, business, arts and entertainment districts, just steps from your hotel.

This morning you will be transferred to Vancouver Airport for your included flight to Calgary. Upon arrival, your local guide will meet you and you will be transferred to your Banff accommodation for the next three nights — Mount Royal Hotel, located right on Banff Avenue. Enjoy a prime position in the heart of this picturesque town with local restaurants, shops and village life at your fingertips.

The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy this quaint city independently.

Day 5: Banff

This morning, join your expert guide on a three-hour tour, visiting Banff’s landmarks and viewing the local wildlife in its natural habitat. Hear how the history of the Bow Valley changed when three railway workers rediscovered a hidden treasure and learn about the local wildlife’s behaviour, habitat and winter survival adaptations. Stop to enjoy a hot chocolate and a light snack before returning to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure.

This evening, participate in an evening ice walk of Johnston Canyon. Light your way through this narrow, water-formed canyon as you follow your guide to the lower falls. The suspended catwalks, built into the limestone walls, make this an easy trip for everyone. Along the way, your guide will highlight unique features by powerful flashlight and pause for moments of darkness and quiet to foster an appreciation for spending time in the canyon at night. Warm up with hot chocolate and a maple cookie snack while you look around the lower falls, before returning to the hotel.

Day 6: Banff

After breakfast, enjoy a memorable sleigh ride among the stunning and tranquil Canadian Rockies. Cuddle up under warm woollen blankets as a team of horses pulls you through sparkling, snow-covered meadows. Watch for grazing elk or coyotes prowling near the edge of the forest as the expert guides take you on a quintessential winter experience, and then warm up by a campfire and toast a marshmallow while you enjoy a hot drink.

Next, we step into the Banff Gondola and take a breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of Sulphur Mountain for an awe-inspiring 360-degree panorama of sheer mountain majesty. Enjoy an included mountaintop lunch at the Northern Lights Café* and later, take in the interpretative hiking trails that lead along the ridge of the mountain.

Return to your hotel later this afternoon for an evening at leisure.

This evening, enjoy an authentic Swiss fondue or a delicious à la carte dinner at the Fairmont’s popular Walliser Stube restaurant, which pays homage to the region’s Swiss mountain guide heritage.

Day 8: Lake Louise

Today you will continue your exploration of this winter wonderland with an introduction to snowshoeing. The tour will take you to the top of the mountain, where you will experience a view previously only accessible to skiers and snowboarders. Certified guides will show you how to use snowshoes while sharing stories of the history, landscape and wildlife of Lake Louise. Enjoy breathtaking views while taking your first steps in snowshoes.

Return to the hotel, where this afternoon, you will experience the wonderful tradition of afternoon tea at the Fairmont Château Lake Louise while enjoying spectacular views of the lake and Victoria Glacier.

Day 9: Lake Louise – Calgary – Yellowknife

Today we transfer back to Calgary for our flight to Yellowknife — gateway to the mighty North West Territories and the incredible Northern Lights. Upon arrival, you will be met by a local representative and transferred to The Explorer Hotel, one of the city’s finest properties.

This afternoon, get kitted out with complimentary loaned winter clothing, including a Canada Goose parka, mitts, pants, boots and a face warmer, before departing to Aurora Village – a remote tepee village away from the city lights, offering unsurpassed Aurora viewing. Warm up in a picturesque tepee, welcoming you in with a cosy wood stove, heated seats and a delicious selection of hot drinks.

After the viewing, transfer back to your hotel.

Day 10: Yellowknife

Enjoy a morning at leisure before heading out for an exciting dog sledging excursion. Board a traditional sledge, towed by an enthusiastic dog team, for a thrilling ride over the frozen lake and through the wooded trails. Following this, return to Aurora Village and strap on snowshoes for a guided walk along the local trails, where your guide reveals how the Indigenous people of the area used the flora and fauna to survive this harsh climate. An afternoon of fun on a giant ice slide and roasting marshmallows completes the daytime activities before nightfall and the second evening of Aurora viewing.

This afternoon you will have the chance to explore the historically and culturally vibrant city of Yellowknife on a tour. See the Legislative Assembly and Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Center and take a scenic drive through downtown, Old Tow, and onto the Frozen Ice Road. A third evening of Aurora viewing caps off a perfect day, before being transferred back to The Explorer Hotel.

Bookings (except for cruise bookings and flights) may be cancelled with a full refund provided that cancellation occurs strictly within 7 days from the date of purchase and provided that the cancellation is made no less than 90 days prior to the departure date.

Name Change or Corrections

Following the 7-Day Change of Mind Guarantee period,

  • Name corrections may incur a fee.

Date Changes

  • You can enjoy unlimited, free date changes up until 90 days prior to original travel date (subject to seasonal surcharges or package upgrades). Changes can be made via your ‘My Escapes’ account, or by contacting the Tours Concierge Team at tours@luxuryescapes.com.
  • Alternatively, you can cancel your tour booking up until 90 days prior to original travel date, with credit towards future travel for any Limited Time Lux Exclusive accommodation, tour or cruise package, excludes flights. Additional charges for date changes that result in a higher value will be charged to your account. Credit must be used within 12 months of issue date. After this time bookings are non-refundable except in accordance with our Refund Policy.
  • The Tours Concierge team will advise if the change is confirmed via email and provide an invoice for the following: date change fees, costs from third-party suppliers, air and rail travel and hotels (cabins on cruises).

  • offer you a credit for another tour, cruise or accommodation offer, less any third-party costs that Luxury Escapes can’t recover (including from airlines and tour providers), or
  • refund the full value of your tour, less any third-party costs that Luxury Escapes can’t recover (including from airlines and tour providers)

Passports & Visas

  • Important: Please start arranging your visa at least 6-8 weeks prior to departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours and processing time.
  • A valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers (including children and infants).

Photo ID

  • For all international tours, a digital copy of your passport must be provided for each guest by 90 days prior to your tour departure.
  • For domestic tours, a digital copy of a government-issued photo identification (passport or driver’s licence) must be provided for each guest by 60/90 days prior to your tour departure.

Tour Baggage Restrictions

Transfers

  • Flight details must be advised at least 30 days prior to your scheduled departure date. Failure to provide your confirmed flight details within this time period will result in forfeiting your transfer.

Flight Schedule Changes and/or Cancellations (if applicable)

  • Please note that the rules governing your flight purchase are different from the terms and conditions of your hotel, tour, or cruise purchase. See Flights terms and conditions here
  • Your hotel, tour, or cruise booking cannot be changed or cancelled in the event of unavoidable flight schedule changes or cancellations and will be subject to the terms of that purchase.
  • Further, your right to a change or cancellation of a flight is strictly governed by the terms and conditions of the specific airfare you purchased and as determined by the relevant airline carrier.
  • We will, however, make every effort to work with airlines and suppliers in order to provide you with the best alternative options available.

Porterage

On occasion, porterage is not included, therefore, at times, you may be expected to handle your own luggage where help may not be available. Please refer to inclusions if porterage is included.

Tipping

Tipping and gratuities are not included in the package and are at your own discretion. As a guide, approx. CA$12 – CA$20 per person, per day, is the industry standard.

Winter Clothing

During your stay in Yellowknife, we have included a five-piece wither clothing set (on loan) from some of the most trusted brands, designed for the extreme cold of Canada’s North. This includes a Canadian goose-down parka, winter pants, extreme winter boots, elbow-length mitts and a face mask.

Fitness Requirements

Travellers acknowledge that they are required to have a good level of health and fitness to undertake the activities in this tour. Further, travellers acknowledge and agree that neither Luxury Escapes nor the tour provider will be able to provide medical or other assistance in the event that they are unable to complete any aspect of the tour as a result of their health or physical condition (nor is Luxury Escapes liable for any loss, damage, expense, injury or death arising from such).

Dietary Requirements

In most cases Luxury Escapes can cater for special dietary requirements but please note that on occasion, this may not be possible due to location, lack of availability of ingredients, and other extenuating circumstances. It is always advised to carry supplies with you.

Any dietary requirements must be received by Luxury Escapes at least 90 days prior to your scheduled departure date. Failure to provide these details by this date may result in an inability to cater for your requirements.

Valued Up To

The value and comparative savings have been determined based on published rack rates and the value of inclusions. Please be advised that rack rates may not be reflective of actual rates being charged, dependent on the timing and manner of your booking and therefore are only indicative of the level of saving.

Itinerary Amendments & Changes

Occasionally our itineraries are updated prior to departure to incorporate improvements stemming from past travellers’ feedback as well as updates from our ground operators. Please note that while we operate successful tours in this region throughout the year, some changes may be necessary due to inclement weather, public holidays, common seasonal changes to timetables and transport routes, and unforeseen circumstances. This can happen with little notice so please be prepared for modifications to the route. The order and timing of included activities may also vary from time to time.

In the event of a change in itinerary (due to safety or events outside of our control) which results in cancellation or change fees in respect of flights (or other parts of your travel) we will notify you as soon as practicable. You will be responsible for any associated costs or will otherwise have the right to a refund (less any costs incurred or paid to third parties).

Surcharges

After completing your booking, your tour cost may be subject to additional surcharges as a result of factors beyond the control of Luxury Escapes. Where the cost of delivering your selected tour materially increases between the time of purchase and delivery, Luxury Escapes reserves the right to increase the balance due. Increases may be in relation to, but not limited to, currency fluctuations, taxes, airfares, fuel surcharges or tour costs where those costs have increased for similar reasons. A material increase will be considered once in excess of 10% of the package price.

Any prices quoted exclude specific costs/measures which may be introduced at a later stage as a result of Government changes due to COVID-19 health and safety restrictions. Luxury Escapes will inform its guests of these changes as soon as possible, these additional charges will be passed on by Luxury Escapes to the guest.
