How to get to the Maldives

The best way to get to the Maldives is by flying. Velana International Airport, Malé (MLE), is the main entry point for international travellers. Flights to Malé are available from major international hubs like Singapore, Dubai and Doha, with connections from cities in Australia. From Malé, transfers to resorts are usually by speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight, depending on the distance. Speedboats are common for nearby atolls, while seaplanes offer access to more remote islands. Many resorts also offer private transfers.

When is the best time to go to the Maldives?

The best time to go to the Maldives is during the dry season, from November to April, when temperatures range between 25°C and 30°C and rainfall is minimal. This season is ideal for diving, snorkelling and enjoying clear skies and calm seas. The wet season, from May to October, sees more rain and humidity, with temperatures between 26°C and 31°C. This time can see fewer crowds, lower hotel prices and excellent surfing conditions as the swells pick up, attracting surfers from around the world.

How to travel to the Maldives on a budget

Travelling to the Maldives on a budget is possible! Plan your Maldives holiday during the low season (May to November) when rates are lower and be flexible on flights with stopovers in cities like Singapore or Kuala Lumpur to save on airfares. Choose a resort package with great inclusions – many in the Maldives are all-inclusive, with meal plans to cut costs on food and drinks, complimentary amenities and activities like snorkelling or yoga, and transfers to help you get there. Alternatively, choose speedboat transfers and public ferries when available.
