Early morning after breakfast, your journey will take you through another pine forest. Walk for approximately five to six hours alongside the Dudh Kosi river, passing villages and crossing suspension bridges. Climb steeply to reach Namche Bazaar, one of the largest towns in the Everest region. Here, you’ll catch your first glimpse of the mountain’s snow-capped peak. This evening, settle into your lodge for a rest.

Travel time: Trekking – approx. 5–6 hours (7.4km)

Inclusions

Breakfast

To avoid altitude sickness, the day will be spent acclimatising in Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the primary town of the Everest region, occupied by a market with ATMs, a government office, shops and restaurants. For views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and other peaks in the region, trek approximately three to four hours to the Everest View Hotel, sitting at 3,880m above sea level. Upon your return to Namche Bazaar, take the time to rest this afternoon.

Travel time: Trekking – approx. 2–3 hours (3.2km)

Inclusions
Green Tara Lodge (Guest House) or similar
Breakfast

The trek today takes you towards Tengboche village, with approximately five to six hours of walking time. As you make your way up another 400m above sea level, pass through forests of rhododendrons, a shrub suited to cold climates and known as the national flower of Nepal. Catch views of Everest, Nuptse and Ama Dablam before arriving in Tengboche, which houses the famous Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Everest region.

Travel time: Trekking – approx. 5–6 hours (5.9km)

Inclusions
Hotel Himalayan (Guest House) or similar
Breakfast

Following breakfast at your lodge, continue on your trek, the trail descending through forests of birch, conifer and rhododendron trees. While trekking, admire views of Island Peak, Lhotse and Ama Dablam as you follow the trail to the Imja Khola Valley and Lobuche (Lobujya) River. Finally, ascend to Dingboche, the last Sherpa village on the way to Base Camp, with only a small population.

Inclusions
Hotel Stupa Inn (Guest House) or similar

Ascend to the steep terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. Here, you will see several peaks including Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. Inclusions
New EBC Guest House (Guest House Room) or similar
Breakfast

Depart Lobuche to begin today’s six to eight-hour trek to Gorakshep, a frozen lakebed enveloped in sand. Stop for a brief rest, before trekking on a glacier path to reach Everest Base Camp, 5,364m above sea level. Take a moment to appreciate your accomplishment and enjoy the views of the Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori mountains from base camp. After, your walk continues back towards Gorakshep, where you’ll rest after a big day.

Tipping

  • Please note that the standard tipping expection is around US$10-15 per day for guides, and US$8-10 per day for porters. This can vary based on the quality of service and guests’ satisfaction.

Please Note:

  • This is a Grade Three-rated trek, a level considered ‘strenuous’. Expect to trek about five to seven hours daily or about 8 to 12 kilometres per day, from an altitude of 4,000m to 5,550m.
  • It is recommended that you prepare for the trek by suitable training such as climbing hills or stairs, jogging, and spending some time in the gym to improve your stamina for a few months prior to the trek for a more enjoyable experience. Climbing and descending are quite common walking experiences and you may also need to cross little glaciers.
  • Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in lower altitudes, however, the pace of the trek will vary in compensation. Past hiking experience would be an asset, but no technical skill is required. If you have any health issues, please consult your doctor before purchasing.
  • There is a risk of altitude sickness at any point during trekking. A comprehensive medical kit, and your fully trained guide will be there to assist should you have any issues.
  • You must bring appropriate trekking footwear and other essential items on tour. This includes bringing a reusable water bottle, preferably with a filter; warm, layered clothing; trekking poles; and personal hygiene items. You will be provided with a duffel bag, sleeping bag, t-shirt and trekking map if required.
  • For the trek, there will be one porter per two guests as necessary, per group size. The porter will carry 15kg per person during the trek. Guests will need to carry a daypack with their personal belongings. It is recommended day packs be no heavier than 5kg.
  • Hot showers will be available during trekking at an additional cost of approximately A$8 per shower. In Lobuche and Gorakshep, a bucket shower facility is available.
  • Generally speaking, a maximum weight limit of up to 100kg per person applies to helicopter flights. If a traveller’s weight exceeds this, care will be taken to manage seating or flight arrangements on a case-by-case basis to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Passengers are permitted one piece of baggage with a maximum weight of 15kg on tour.
  • Passengers are permitted one additional, small personal item.

Travel Insurance

  • Travel insurance is required on all our tours, which (at a minimum) covers medical expenses and repatriation. You may not be permitted to join the tour group if evidence of travel insurance is not provided prior to your trip. If you are unable to obtain travel insurance for whatever reason, you may be required to sign a waiver and/or provide a letter from a medical practitioner that confirms you are fit for travel. For any enquiries regarding travel insurance, please call 1300 88 99 00 or email sales@luxuryescapes.com.

Passports & Visas

  • A visa may be required. It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they hold a current visa for the countries visited on tour. If the traveller is on a non-Australian passport, a valid re-entry visa may be required.
  • You are responsible for visas, entry, health and other requirements, and any documents required by laws, regulations, orders and/or requirements of countries visited. Luxury Escapes and/or its servants and agents are not responsible for passport and visa requirements or for any loss you sustain for failing to comply with laws, regulations, orders and/or requirements of countries visited.
  • A valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers (including children and infants).

Traveller Details

  • Traveller Details must be completed for each individual traveller.
  • Travellers must advise of any medical conditions or dietary requirements. Failure to provide such information in advance of your tour may result in an inability to cater to your requirements.
  • We work with exceptional local tour providers to present uniquely crafted packages that encompass sightseeing tours and excursions. Our tour provider partners are dedicated to making every effort to accommodate specific requirements. However, it should be noted that the extent to which they can address mobility and accessibility needs may vary, depending on the nature of the sightseeing tour and activities involved. Please contact tours@luxuryescapes.com so we can advise whether your specific needs can be accommodated.
  • Special dietary requirements can be catered for in most cases, however, on occasion this may not be possible due to location, lack of availability of unique ingredients, and other extenuating circumstances. It is always advised to carry any necessary supplies with you.
  • Passport details are required for all bookings. In some cases, a digital copy of your passport may be requested by Luxury Escapes to book certain elements of your trip.
  • If a photo of your passport is requested, failure to provide valid photo ID will result in your booking being cancelled and all monies paid remaining non-refundable. When requested, a digital copy of your passport must be provided for each guest at least 90 days prior to your tour departure.
  • Should you require any assistance with your Traveller Details, please contact our Tours Concierge Team at tours@luxuryescapes.com.

Health and Fitness Acknowledgement:

  • Travellers acknowledge that they are required to have a good level of health and fitness to undertake the activities on this tour.
  • There are limitations to the degree of accommodations that can be made if travellers are unable to partake in the included activities on this tour. Please consider suitability as additional costs could apply.
  • Travellers also acknowledge and agree that neither we nor the tour provider will be able to provide medical or other assistance in the event that they are unable to complete any aspect of the tour as a result of their health or physical condition (nor are we liable for any loss, damage, expense, injury or death arising from such).
  • Most people can start to feel the effects of altitude at over 2,000 metres, regardless of age, gender or fitness level. It is very important that you make yourself aware of the cause and effects of travelling at altitude, monitor your health and seek assistance accordingly. It’s important to take it easy, drink plenty of water and speak to your group leader at once if you feel unwell. We recommend seeing your doctor if you have any health concerns before undertaking the trip, particularly if you have a pre-existing medical condition or are prescribed medication.
