What you'll see

Welcome to Livingstone, a treasure trove of great discoveries, natural world wonders and historical significance. Arrive at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI), where you will be met by local representatives and transferred to your nearby exclusive treehouse retreat, Sussi & Chuma Lodge.

Ideally located around 20km upstream from Victoria Falls and in the heart of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, Sussi & Chuma Lodge is built on a dramatic bend of the Zambezi River amid jackalberry trees and date palms. This boutique accommodation comprises 12 treehouses perched in the park’s giant ebony trees and connected by wooden walkways. The main lodge area offers a cosy lounge, well-appointed dining area, fully stocked bar and striking infinity-edge swimming pool. Here, guests can unwind, socialise and soak in the panoramic views of the river, all in luxurious comfort.

Awaken to the call of African wildlife and embrace the magic of Livingstone, where for the next two days, the choice is yours with bespoke experiences designed to match your interests. Upon check-in, guests discuss their preferred activities and order.

Your options include:

  • Game drives through Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, home to elephants, impalas, giraffes, buffalos, hippos, crocodiles, zebras and more. Try spotting them all from the comfort of a custom-built 4x4 vehicle.
  • Take off on a tropical fishing trip from your lodge (seasonal activity, March to December).
  • Set out on a ‘Flight of Angels’ scenic helicopter tour over the world-famous Victoria Falls (at own expense).
  • Join a scenic walking tour of Victoria Falls, situated a short distance away. Listen to the waters roar as you approach, be amazed by a cloud of brilliant spray where the mile-wide Upper Zambezi falls 100 metres into the Lower Zambezi, and gaze upon rainbows spouting up from below and collapsing in the tropical sunlight.
  • Experience African flora and fauna on foot during a two-hour morning, afternoon or sundowner walking safari. Gain a completely different perspective from the conventional view you’d have on a safari vehicle as you are accompanied by two highly trained professional guides, who have a combined walking safari experience of more than 20 years. You will also be accompanied by an armed national parks ranger.
  • Enjoy the afternoon on a scenic Zambezi River cruise. On a specially designed boat, you’ll be guided through a series of Grade Two rapids before finding a spot on the beach for a cocktail break.
  • Visit Nakatindi Village, located 5km from the sanctuary. Here, you will be given the opportunity to visit local projects aimed at improving education, conservation, health and enterprise, all sponsored by A&K Sanctuary. You will also visit Nakatindi Community School and Chipego Bike Shop, where you can hire bicycles to use for a tour of the village.
  • Discover why Livingstone is known as the ‘Adventure Capital of Africa’ on a thrilling white water rafting experience. Ride Grade 5 currents on the Zambezi Waterfront before cooling off with chilled drinks and a waterfront lunch (at own expense).
  • Enjoy an afternoon walk through the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls. The 90-minute experience will be guided by a local expert who will share the area’s rich history with you. Stop at various viewing points as you take in this formidable natural sight (at own expense).

Tonight, freshen up before enjoying dinner at the lodge.

Early this morning, trek out on a walking safari – a fitting farewell to Zambia. Led by a knowledgeable guide and local rangers, you’ll be introduced to native flora and fauna, before taking a moment to enjoy your morning coffee or tea in the wild. On your return, check out and cross the border to Botswana as you transfer to your next A&K Sanctuary lodging.

A&K Sanctuary’s Chobe Chilwero Lodge is your luxurious riverside retreat in the heart of the bush, right on the edge of Chobe National Park – home to Africa’s highest concentration of elephants, as well as buffalo herds, lions, leopards, hippopotamus, crocodiles and a vast number of beautiful birds. Perched above the Chobe River, you’ll have unparalleled panoramic views across the floodplains as far as Namibia. With 15 stunning suites scattered across lush lawns, this lodge is a symbol of refined elegance and bush luxury.

After checking in, consider booking a 30-minute Royal Hand & Foot Ceremony at the spa. Then this afternoon, enjoy some leisure time or head out to make the most of your stunning new location. Renowned as one of the region’s finest gastronomic destinations, the dining room creates an unforgettable ambience.

Much of today will be spent exploring Chobe National Park. During the morning and afternoon game drives, learn of the rich ecosystems of the park, which boasts an astonishing diversity of flora, array of stunning landscapes and, of course, spectacular wild animals.

Watch for elephants feeding and washing, spot stampeding herds of buffalo, keep an eye out for hyenas hiding from majestic lions and encounter different types of antelopes, including the rare, semi-aquatic puku, red lechwe and sitatunga. Depending on the season, you may also catch the second-largest migration of zebra in Africa.

Between your explorations, choose to relax in the luxurious surrounds of your thatched suite or unwind by the pool and take a cooling dip. You may also choose to delight in some of the extra activities offered by the lodge at an additional cost, including a catch-and-release fishing excursion through the Chobe area (fishing activity is weather dependent and seasonally available from May to August).

As the day comes to an end, a sundowner cruise will allow you to sip on a cocktail while you watch buffalo up close as they graze in the cooler night air.

Located on a 260,000-acre private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, Baines Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary is a luxury lodge with only six stilted suites, each overlooking the Okavango floodplains. Its location means that you can venture out before and after sunset, as well as off-road, getting you closer to the stunning wildlife.

Spend your afternoon however you wish, whether setting off on a serene traditional mokoro canoe excursion, a game drive or simply kicking back in the comfort of your lodge.

In the evening, watch the sunset dip below the horizon with a drink in hand before setting off on an exciting nighttime game drive to seek out elusive nocturnal creatures (seasonal, dependant on water levels). When it’s time to unwind, slip into the soothing comfort of your outdoor bath. For an unforgettable touch, have your bed rolled out onto your private deck and drift off under a blanket of stars.
