At noon, meet your tour director in the hotel lobby and set off for a day of sightseeing in Hanoi, beginning at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. Visit the the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and wander through the park to its historic Presidential Palace, then stop by Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House – a historic private residence which stands just as it did more than 50 years ago.
Enjoy an in-depth guided experience through the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, built in the 11th century. At the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, delve into the cultural heritage of the country’s 54 recognised ethnic groups, then venture across the vermilion Huc Bridge for a visit to the 18th-century Ngoc Son Temple on Hoan Kiem Lake. For dinner, indulge in local delicacies in the Old Quarter (at your own expense) before transferring to Hanoi railway station at 9pm and boarding your overnight train to Sapa.
Awake early this morning as your train rolls into Lao Cai Railway Station. From here, you'll be whisked away to your hotel in Sapa to drop off your bags and freshen up. This charming and colourful town in Northern Vietnam lies in a deep valley, surrounded by rice paddy terraces and picturesque mountains.
Fuel up for the day ahead with breakfast at your hotel, then it's time to hit the trails. Departing from Sapa, you'll embark on a trek through the breathtaking Muong Hoa Valley, passing rice paddy terraces, buffalo trails and villages inhabited by regional ethnic minorities, experiencing the unique cultures of the Black H'mong in Lao Chai, the Dzay in Ta Van, and the Red Dao in Giang Ta Chai.
Throughout the trek, soak in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains, fields and village life. The day includes a lunch stop in Ta Van, and plenty of breaks along the way. After your adventure, take a return transfer to Sapa, and enjoy evening at your own pace in town.
Enjoy a morning of leisure in Sapa. You may like to stroll through the market, just a walk away from the hotel. For the adventurous, consider exploring Fansipan, the tallest mountain in Vietnam and Indochina. After lunch, it's time to make your way back to Hanoi. Your transfer will deliver you back to the capital city in time for dinner, offering spectacular vistas from the comfort of your coach as you bid farewell to Sapa's mountain paradise.
Following breakfast at your hotel, depart for Ninh Binh. This hidden gem – just a two-hour drive from Hanoi – contains a stunning mix of natural beauty and imperial history.
Your first stop of the day is Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam. Explore the intricate temples dedicated to Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang and Emperor Le Dai Hanh, as you delve into the rich history of these dynasties. Though much of the Hoa Lu Citadel has been lost to time, the remnants speak volumes about Vietnam's past.
Next, journey onward to Tam Coc, stopping along the way to take photographs of the picturesque villages and stunning landscapes dotting the countryside. Upon arrival, you'll embark on a private sampan ride with your group. This traditional flat-bottomed style of boat has been used for centuries by river fishers. Marvel at the majestic limestone karsts that tower over emerald rice fields as you glide along the calm snaking waters that have earned Tam Coc its nickname, 'Ha Long on Land.'
After returning to shore, you'll be transferred back to your hotel for an evening at leisure.
After breakfast, hit the road for Ha Long Bay. Enjoy a scenic drive (approximately three hours), with a stop along the way for souvenirs and a stretch. Upon reaching the bay at noon, board your ship and – after a meet-and-greet with the captain and crew – enjoy tea and coffee while you settle into your cabin.
Sit down for lunch as the ship embarks, gliding out on the bay's striking emerald waters, taking in majestic views of limestone karst mountains rising above you. Enjoy a full day of guided touring in Hue. As the former capital of the country for over 140 years, this city boasts a wealth of ancient temples, imperial buildings, and French-style edifices, all dating back to its establishment in the 17th century.
Your exploration begins with a serene boat trip to Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the oldest in Vietnam. Its iconic seven storeys stand tall against the skyline, making it recognisable as the unofficial symbol of Hue. Celebrated in folk rhymes and local lore, this sacred site is a testament to the city's spiritual heritage.
Next, journey to the heart of Hue to explore its historic Imperial City, a vast complex that once served as the seat of power for the Nguyen Dynasty. Modelled after the Forbidden City of Peking, this citadel boasts a rich history that spans centuries. Though much of the original structures were lost to the ravages of war, the remaining monuments offer a captivating glimpse into the opulent court life of bygone eras.
After lunch, venture into the countryside, discovering the serene beauty of the Tomb of Tu Duc. Built by the longest-reigning Vietnamese emperor to be his final resting place, this elegant shrine was completed during his lifetime and used as a retreat for meditation, contemplation and artistic pursuits before his passing. Wander through the tranquil grounds, where graceful pavilions, courtyards and lotus ponds offer a glimpse into this 19th-century emperor'ss legacy.
As night falls, return to the city for an evening at leisure.
Depart historic Hue this morning to the enchanting city of Hoi An, but not before experiencing one of Vietnam's most breathtaking sights – the Hai Van Pass. Navigate the winding turns and sudden bends of this iconic mountain pass as you make your way to Da Nang, where you'll stop for lunch and a brief chance to explore. From beaches immortalised by American soldiers during the Vietnam War to quirky bridges and the remarkable Cham Museum, Da Nang offers a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam's past and present.
Back on the road, pause to stretch and take in views among the imposing Marble Mountains, a group of limestone structures dotted with caves, pagodas and unbeatable views. Arrive in Hoi An before dinner, and enjoy the rest of your evening as you please.

Wake up bright and early and head towards Cu Chi, just one hour south of Ho Chi Minh City. Considered a powerful remnant of the conflict that once threatened Vietnam, this place is legendary for its seemingly endless serpentine tunnels beneath the earth. Glimpse beyond the rice paddies, ducks and water buffaloes to uncover the city beneath a city, a place of solemn pilgrimage for socialists and schoolkids alike, and an extraordinary testament to the Viet Cong’s ingenuity.
After your tour around this historic site, return to Ho Chi Minh City. This evening, join your group for a farewell dinner in your hotel's restaurant and together reflect on your time in Vietnam.
