The Calile in Brisbane Named on World’s 50 Best Hotels Awards List

Only one Australian escape made the cut in this year’s top 50 extended list, with the Fortitude Valley stay going three-for-three.

Brisbane’s The Calile has once again earned international acclaim – officially named among The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 and notably, the only property in Oceania to make this year’s prestigious list. The James Street favourite debuted at No. 12 in the inaugural 2023 rankings and followed up with a No. 17 position in 2024, cementing the hotel’s status as one of the finest stays in Australia.

Its return to the list cements The Calile as Australia’s design hotel to beat – breezy, confident and effortlessly cool, just like its hometown.

The top 10 from The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 below:

  1. Rosewood Hong Kong – Hong Kong
  2. Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River – Bangkok
  3. Capella Bangkok – Bangkok
  4. Passalacqua – Lake Como
  5. Raffles Singapore – Singapore
  6. Atlantis The Royal – Dubai
  7. Mandarin Oriental Bangkok – Bangkok
  8. Chablé Yucatán – Mexico
  9. Four Seasons Firenze – Florence
  10. Upper House – Hong Kong

The announcement of the top 50 follows the reveal of the extended list, debuted earlier in the month. Spanning 24 territories and 40 cities, the hotels ranked No. 51 to No. 100 celebrate a new wave of luxury travel experiences. Asia and Europe lead the way, with 16 and 17 properties featured respectively.

Southern Ocean Lodge on South Australia’s Kangaroo Island is the only Australian hotel to make the cut, coming in at No. 69. It’s a remarkable achievement for the remote retreat, which reopened in December 2023 after being rebuilt following the 2020 bushfires. The reborn lodge stays true to its original spirit while introducing thoughtful updates — guest suites now positioned to capture sunrise and sunset views, a refreshed and renamed spa, and a new four-bedroom Ocean Pavilion.
