Turkish Airlines Launches Inaugural Istanbul to Melbourne Flight on 2 March 2024
Istanbul’s rich history, culture and architectural marvels are now easier to reach than ever, with Turkish Airlines announcing direct services from Melbourne.
Melbourne has become the first Australian city to secure direct flights to Istanbul, with Turkish Airlines confirming the long-awaited service will commence on 2 March 2024. The move will see the widely connected and award-winning Turkish Airlines become the sole mainland European airline to operate flights to Australia’s most populous city.
The flights are expected to run three times per week with a duration of around 20 hours. Initially, a 1.5-hour layover in Singapore will be necessary, with daily, direct flights expected upon the delivery of a new aircraft.
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation, Jim Parashos, said he was “thrilled” by the development.
“It’s no surprise that Turkish Airlines has chosen Melbourne as its first Australian destination, given we are home to the nation’s largest Turkish community and our position as the capital of food, sport and culture,” he stated.
Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, Dr. Ahmet Bolat, has invited all Australians to “visit and enjoy all of the delights that Türkiye has to offer.”
“Our country is where ancient history, vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes and tantalising cuisine converge to create a destination unlike any other,” he said. “Through these new services, our aim is to connect Türkiye and Australia, fostering deeper connections among our people and enhancing the ties between our nations.”
Economy fares will start from A$1,499 (price accurate at time of publication and subject to change).
