What You’ll Love…

The Hotel – Boutique luxury, oozing local charm and history

Become a part of history when you stay at the Duchessa Margherita , a boutique property with a fascinating past. This historic building was dedicated to the duchess it’s named after, with each room in the house decorated to reflect a member of the royal family. Entering this unique hotel is like stepping back in time to the Savoy dynasty, with the building lovingly restored in 2009 to its former 19th-century glory and boasting a fabulous array of precious antique furniture and period fireplaces.

The property’s charm extends to the outdoors, with its backdrop of gentle hills and the church square of the Sanctuary of Vicoforte, known for its magnificent elliptical cupola – the largest in the world.

Visit the hotel’s Red Living Room, offering a free bar service to its guests. Sample a selection of liquors and scotch, including Armagnac, whiskey, traditional Grappe aged in Barrique, brandy, calvados, sauternes and Barolo Chinato.

Every afternoon you are also invited into the Tea Room, where you’ll find a vast selection of teas and infusions (including Chai, English Breakfast, Rooibos and Sencha) and a rich buffet of traditional pastries to complement them.

The Room – Elegant design and original antiques

Each room at the Duchessa Margherita is completely unique, boasting an individual layout and design. While one room may have a balcony overlooking the hills, another could be fitted with a golden mirror or boast a Louis XVI-style chest of drawers. Your Classic Room will feature original antique touches, wooden floors, a bed with ergonomic mattress, period fireplace and either a shower or hydro massage bath.

Luxury upgrade: Treat yourself and someone special to a Romantic Deluxe room, a larger space with more lavish furnishings and boasting some of the hotel’s most desirable views. BONUS: Upgrade to enjoy an exclusive dinner in Da Francesco - a Michelin-starred restaurant run by acclaimed chef Francesco Oberto in Cherasco - 35 minutes' drive from the hotel (transfers not included), where you will sample fine dining local cuisine.

The Food & Wine – A taste of Piedmont

Begin each morning with a generous breakfast spread included in your escape. On offer you’ll find savoury delights such as cheeses, charcuterie, fresh bread and bacon alongside fruit, juices and sweet treats including biscuits, jam, cakes, croissants and doughnuts, plus tea and coffee.

You’ll also enjoy one complimentary three-course dinner for two, allowing you to taste some of the region’s best flavours. Served at Parlapà restaurant, located just 100m from the hotel, you’ll dine on two starters, a first-course of ravioli or handmade pasta, a second course of grilled meat and vegetables and a dessert of bunet, a popular local pudding.

Because no trip to Piedmont would be complete without sampling some local wine, you’ll receive a bottle of either red or white on arrival – best enjoyed with countryside views from the terrace. Also included in your escape is a wine tasting in Farigliano, located a 20-minute drive from the hotel (transfers not included), at the Anna Maria Abbona Wine Cellar. Enjoy a tour with an English-speaking guide here and sample a selection of three wines.

Leave with a taste of Italy thanks to a complimentary gourmet bag on check-out, filled with two types of pasta, one sauce and biscuits.

See & Do – Hire a car and explore the local area

Located just 50m from the hotel is the stunning Vicoforte Shrine, decorated with more than 6,000sqm of frescoes. The ticketed Magnificat experience gives you entry into secured walkways, which lead you all the way to the church’s magnificent dome, where you can enjoy views from 75m off the ground. Upgrade to a seven-night stay and you’ll enjoy included Magnificat tickets for two in your escape.

You’re also just five minutes by car from the town of Mondovi, renowned for its cheese and pasta. Or drive 20 minutes into the lands of Barolo, now a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit Alba, famous worldwide for its white truffle, the Grinzane Cavour castle and Belvedere viewpoint in La Morra for panoramic countryside vistas.

The Bossea Caves are also located around 20 minutes away by car, with guided tours of the spectacular interior available.

If you’re travelling in the winter months (December – February), visit the nearby Mondole mountain resort, a great place for ski and snowboard enthusiasts.

Those happy to incorporate a longer drive into their plans can get to the city of Cuneo in 40 minutes and Turin in 50 minutes, while the Italian Rivera seaside is around 50km away.
