Today, you’ll fly to Ushuaia, the capital of Tierra del Fuego and the world’s southernmost city. After a warm welcome from the captain and crew aboard your ultra-luxurious Discovery yacht, settle into your Scenic Eclipse II suite, raise a glass of champagne at Sky Bar and meet the Discovery Team, whose specialists will introduce the expedition ahead.
Wake to stellar views as you cruise around Cape Horn, the dramatic meeting point of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and one of the most remote corners of South America. As the Scenic Eclipse II follows the Beagle Channel – named after the vessel that carried Charles Darwin on his five-year voyage of discovery – look out across the Andean peaks and rugged Patagonian coastline.
Meet the Discovery Team for an introduction to Zodiac landings and shore excursions, then settle into the state-of-the-art theatre for expert lectures, films and evening performances. You can also enjoy the ship’s Sky Bar, library or Observation Lounge as the expedition gets underway.
Cruise through the remote Chilean fjords towards Seno Garibaldi and Seno Pia, where towering mountains, deep waterways and ancient ice shape the landscape. Watch as glaciers descend through rugged valleys, with Seno Pia revealing dramatic ice crevasses and glacial rivers along its course.
Keep watch for seals, sea lions, seabirds and the impressive Andean condor as you explore this rich marine environment with the Discovery Team. Back onboard, relax in a cabana on Deck 10, retreat to the library or ask your butler to bring dinner to your suite and enjoy it on your private verandah.
Venture deep into Agostini Fjord, one of the remote waterways carved through the Chilean Fjords. As the Scenic Eclipse II glides between steep mountain slopes and glacial-blue waters, look towards the Darwin Mountain Range, where Agostini Glacier forms a striking cascade of ice.
The Discovery Team will help you make the most of this pristine setting through a range of shore and Zodiac excursions, with opportunities to look for seals, seabirds and humpback whales. Return to the yacht for an evening recap, sharing the day’s discoveries and learning what lies ahead.
Arrive in Punta Arenas, a city on the southern extreme of Chile and an important gateway to Patagonia. Overlooking the Strait of Magellan, the city grew during the California Gold Rush, when its position made it a natural haven for passing ships. Explore its European-influenced architecture and clean, open landscapes, or venture nearby to Magdalena Island – a breeding ground for Magellanic penguins.
Back onboard, unwind with a treatment at Senses Spa before the Scenic Eclipse II follows the legendary Strait of Magellan, once the main passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Navigate the labyrinth of the Chilean Fjords, following long, narrow inlets and channels carved through the landscape by glaciers. From the Observation Deck, watch towering peaks rise above the yacht, with waterfalls and dense forests lining the shores.
When the land is free from ice, the fjords reveal a unique mix of temperate and Sub-Antarctic flora, including deciduous beech trees and native calafate berries. Keep your complimentary binoculars close as elephant seals, dolphins and whales may appear among the rugged coastline.
Cruise through the Inner Fjords and the English Narrows towards remote Puerto Eden, the only settlement within Chile’s Inside Passage. Surrounded by mountainous terrain and Magellanic sub-polar forest, this isolated community offers a glimpse into life in one of Patagonia’s most inaccessible regions.
Learn about the area’s ancient Mapuche culture, explore the town’s intricate wooden boardwalks and look for native wildlife. Continue towards Pio XI Glacier in Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, before joining the Discovery Team’s evening recap and preview of the next day’s adventures.
After several days exploring Patagonia’s fjords, enjoy a slower day aboard the Scenic Eclipse II. Sleep in and ask your butler to deliver breakfast to your spacious suite, or meet fellow travellers at the alfresco Yacht Club.
Join an educational lecture with a member of the Discovery Team, then take in the passing scenery from a Deck 10 cabana or the privacy of your suite’s verandah. With included dining, onboard facilities and time to relax, today offers a welcome opportunity to enjoy the yacht between excursions.
Visit Castro on the island of Chiloé, a destination framed by a fjord on one side and the wild landscapes of Chiloé National Park on the other. The surrounding waters and coastline support a variety of wildlife, including Magellanic and Humboldt penguins that migrate to the region.
Stroll through the city streets, sample local delicacies such as Chiloé potatoes and admire the island’s World Heritage-listed churches, celebrated for their distinctive ecclesiastical wooden architecture.
Arrive in Puerto Montt, a lively town in Chile’s Lake District and a gateway to the Andean landscapes beyond. Positioned near the end of the Pan-American Highway, the city is framed by snow-capped volcanoes, lush scenery and the distant peaks of the Andes.
Explore the waterfront, browse colourful markets filled with artisan crafts and sample fresh seafood before returning to the Scenic Eclipse II. During your downtime, perhaps visit the gym or join a class in the studio, including Pilates, guided stretching or aerial yoga.
Enjoy a relaxed morning aboard the Scenic Eclipse II as the yacht follows the Chilean coast towards Niebla. The town is home to the 17th-century Niebla Fortress, built to guard the entrance to the Valdivia River.
Nearby Valdivia is a vibrant university city with a layered history, shaped in part by the catastrophic earthquake of 1960, the strongest ever recorded. Take time to explore ashore, or else enjoy the ship’s facilities and coastal views before continuing your voyage.
Spend your final full day at sea enjoying the considered spaces and facilities of the Scenic Eclipse II. Start with breakfast delivered to your suite, join a class in the PURE: Yoga & Pilates Studio or unwind in the KLAFS Salt Therapy Lounge.
At the bow of the yacht, the Observation Lounge and Terrace on Deck 5 offers a peaceful place for specialty tea or coffee while the coastline slips by. Check the daily programme for onboard activities, then join the Discovery Team for the final expedition recap.
