Start the day with a 90-minute drive to UNESCO World Heritage-listed Himeji Castle – a hilltop building with a white exterior, dating back to the feudal age. With its strategic position, Himeji is one of only a dozen strongholds still standing. Wander the castle grounds before continuing to Hiroshima.

After breakfast, make your way to the Atomic Bomb Dome. The dome’s stripped frame is a reminder of the horrific bombing of 1945. Take your time walking through Peace Memorial Park, filled with monuments highlighting the impacts of the nuclear bomb.
Next, visit the sacred island of Miyajima, home to the Itsukushima Shrine and its famous floating torii gate. Watch out for the hungry deer that wander through the town.
Return to Hiroshima and sample the city’s famous fresh oysters, known for their rich umami flavour. In the evening, enjoy Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki – a savoury Japanese pancake with your choice of savoury fillings.
Today, travel to the port city of Takamatsu on Shikoku Island. Amid koi ponds and seaside castles, Takamatsu’s culinary scene thrives.
Get hands-on with the region’s most famous dish as you study the art of udon noodle-making. Follow a master of the craft as you try your hand at rolling, kneading and chopping these chewy wheat flour noodles, then eat them for lunch as a reward for your hard work.
Next, take your time exploring the Ritsurin Garden – a feudal masterpiece of the early Edo Period, regarded as one of Japan’s most well-kept gardens and demonstrating the country’s landscaping heritage. Visit the ruins of 16th-century Takamatsu Castle – one of only a few constructed with a moat. While restoration remains an ongoing process, the castle’s turrets speak of a powerful imperial history.
In the evening, drive two hours to Kobe and visit the Kobe Harborland for dinner. Enjoy a seafood buffet at the Fisherman’s Market with fresh oysters, crab and local fish.

Your day begins with a visit to the district of Kitano-cho at the edge of the Rokko mountains. Stroll the streets to admire Western-style mansions, constructed in the 19th and early-20th centuries. For lunch, savour the marbling and tenderness of renowned Kobe beef.
Later, stop by the historic Hakutsuru Sake Brewery. Operating for nearly three centuries, Hakutsuru is one of Japan’s oldest producers of sake and among the most prestigious in the world. Learn about the fermentation process and cultural heritage of sake-making at the Brewery Museum, then enjoy a sake tasting session.
This evening, return to Osaka to spend your time freely exploring Shinsaibashi.

Depart from Osaka this morning and journey to nearby Kyoto.
Stop first along the Uji River and visit Takumi-no Yakata. Learn from the experts as you partake in an Uji matcha tasting experience. Then, enjoy a traditional Japanese bento or teishoku lunch – a set meal with various delicacies in a decorative box.
Continue to UNESCO World Heritage-listed Byodoin to see the Phoenix Hall, depicted on the ten-yen coin. This Buddhist temple was originally constructed over a thousand years ago as a countryside retreat for politician Fujiwara no Michinaga. Conclude your day with a trip to Sanjusangendo temple, officially named Rengeo-in. Founded in the 12th century, this 120-metre-long hall houses a collection of 1,001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy.

Today starts with a trip to Kinkaku-ji, known as the Golden Pavilion thanks to the gold leaf that coats its top two floors. Learn about its tumultuous history and the spiritual importance of this work of design. Next visit Arashiyama, crossing the Togetsukyo Bridge, and walk through the stalks of Bamboo Grove.
Savour the simplicity of ‘yudofu’, a comforting Japanese hotpot featuring a light sake-and-kombu broth poured over boiled tofu.
Complete your day with a visit to Fushimi Inari and limb the steps through bright red torii gates, carving a tunnel through the forest. Pause at the top to witness the unique Shinto shrine, then make your descent.
Next, it’s time to wander the Gion district. Stroll between the historic machiya houses of Hanamikoji Street and see geisha walking the lantern-lit alleys. The rest of your evening is spent freely exploring this city before your dinner.
Say farewell to Kyoto and transfer to Nagoya, one of Japan’s key ports and transport centres, which has shaped its unique food scene. See what all the fuss is about with a hearty lunch of hitsumabushi (Nagoya-style grilled eel), the city’s most famous dish.
Continue to the Noritake Museum, dedicated to the company’s historic ceramic production, and learn about the craftsmanship. Finish your day with a dinner of Nagoya-style tebasaki (Japanese chicken wings) served in spiced sweet-and-savoury sauce.

Wake rested and ready to set off to Mount Fuji. Start the day at Oishi Park – a lakeside garden with views of the mountain. Explore the traditional village of Oshino Hakkai, known for its spring water and thatched-roof houses.
If the day is clear, journey up to Fuji-Subaru Line Fifth Station of Mount Fuji for an elevated view at 2,300 metres.
Later, check in at your onsen accommodation. For thousands of years, people in Japan have visited onsen to relax in hot springs. You can join this calming tradition by taking a dip in the hotel’s rooftop hot spring.

This morning, board your private coach bound for Tokyo.
One of the world’s biggest metropolises, Tokyo is full of life and culture, both old and new. Your day begins as you ascend to Tokyo Tower’s observation deck for city views. Return to the streets and brave the crowds scrambling through Shibuya Crossing.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to Tsukiji Outer Market – a hub selling fresh seafood and other delicacies like market-fresh sushi. Finish your city tour in the historic Asakusa district, window-shopping along Nakamise Shopping Street en route to Tokyo’s oldest temple, Senso-ji.
In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner of chanko nabe or ‘sumo stew’. Named for its popularity among wrestlers, this aromatic hot pot is full of flavour.
