Travellers nostalgic for the time of the sultans will find this city is home to a tremendous amount of ancient monuments and grand frescoed mosques (including the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque).
Istanbul is also famous for its tulips – an enduring symbol of the city – and Turkish baths (called hammams). Both are well worth experiencing for first-time visitors.
