A sightseeing tour will have you uncover the incredible hilltop Yambulakhang Palace – the oldest building in the country, and the Trandruk Monastery, which is believed to be one of the first Buddhist monasteries in Tibet.

Enjoy a scenic drive to the town of Gyantse, stopping at the beautiful and sacred Yamdrok Lake en-route: stretching for 72 km, the lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and it’s one of the most sacred destinations in the country. Next up is the Karola Glacier, an impressive natural wonder piercing the sky at over 5,560 meters.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

After arriving in Kathmandu, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where the rest of the afternoon is at leisure. In the evening, enjoy a pre-trip meeting at your hotel, where you will meet your guide and discuss the itinerary. For the meeting, please make sure you bring your passport, three passport-size photos, and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy. Please try to get to Kathmandu in the morning to attend the meeting in the afternoon.

Afterward, enjoy a welcome dinner of authentic Nepalese cuisine, which will introduce you to the country’s food and culture. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu City Tour

After breakfast enjoy a city tour accompanied by a knowledgeable guide.

Discover Swayambhunath Stupa (The Monkey Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Swyambhu is also known as Samhengu and the Monkey temple because of the countless monkeys living in the premises.

Next up is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples of Nepal, located on the banks of Bagmati River on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu. Pashupatinath is the most important temple dedicated to Shiva.

Lastly, admire Boudhanath Stupa, a 2500 years old Buddhist stupa built in the 5th century with two sets of Buddha’s eyes located in four cardinal directions, keeping an eternal watch over people and their lives.

The rest of the day is free for further exploration or for some shopping near the hotel.

Day 3: Patan Durbar Square and drive to Nagarkot

After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of UNESCO-listed Patan Dubar Square and all its sights. Located in the city of Lalitpur, the square is a magnificent display of the Newari architecture.

Next up is one of the most important of all the tourist sites in Bhaktapur. The area is known as “Layaku”: here, you will admire ancient temples and shrines, sculptures and historical heritage sites constructed in different eras.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy a scenic drive to Nagarkot. On the way, soak up serene views over the mountain ranges.

Day 4: Drive to Pokhara (approximately eight hours, 220 km)

Wake up nice and early to enjoy views of the sun rising from Nagarkot. After breakfast, leave Nagarkot for Pokhara. Enjoy a scenic drive through beautiful landscapes, then reach Pokhara, known as the lake city, where you will stand in awe in front of magnificent views of the Himalayas and the Annapurna range’s peaks: Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Manaslu (8,156m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m). The rest of the day is at leisure: you may want to stroll the streets of Pokhara and enjoy the surroundings of one of the most beautiful cities of Nepal.

Day 5: Full Day Tour of Pokhara

Today you will embark on a full-day tour of the natural and historical wonders of Pokhara including the famous Bindhyabasini Temple, the beautiful Devi’s Falls waterfalls, Gupteshwor Cave, Phewa Lake and Barahi Temple. Lastly, admire the Seti river gorges and its carved bridges. Return to your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 6: Drive to Kathmandu (approximately six hours, 200 km)

After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. This will be a fantastic journey along the river banks giving you the opportunity to discover more of life in Nepal. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 7: Fly to Tibet – Drive to Tsedang

Today, leave early for your flight to Lhasa, Tibet. As you fly out of Kathmandu, enjoy panoramic views over the Himalayas. After arrival, drive approximately three hours to Tsedang.

Day 8: Guided City Tour of Tsedang

Today, enjoy a guided tour of the main sites of Tsedang, including Yumbulakang Palace, regarded as the first palace of Tibet’s history and one of the oldest buildings in Tibet, which is located 12km southwest of Tsedang Country. Just five km outside Tsedang you will encounter Trandruk Monastery, one of the earliest Buddhist monasteries in Tibet.

Day 9: Drive from Tsedang to Gyantse (approximately five hours drive, 310 km)

After breakfast, leave Tsedang and drive to Gyantse. On the way admire the imposing Gampala pass (4790 m), enjoy a visit to the sacred Yamdrok Lake and to the beautiful Karola Glacier, standing proud at over 5,500 meters above sea level.

Day 10: Drive from Gyantse to Lhasa (approximately five hours drive, 225 km)

After breakfast, drive to Lhasa stopping en route for a visit to the famous Pelkor Monastery. Founded in 1418, Pelkor Chode Monastery is the main monastery in Gyantse of Tibet. A highlight of this monastery is the Kumbum, a multi-storied aggregate of Buddhist chapels boasting over 100 chapels.

Day 11: City Tour of Lhasa

Today, your two-day exploration of the city of Lhasa begins. On this journey, you will discover the city’s most important sights. First up is the UNESCO-listed Potala Palace, which is also known as the winter palace of Dalai Lama. This is a majestic, 13-story high building containing over 1,000 rooms, various statues, stupas, murals and artifacts.

Continue on to Jokhang Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the main spiritual centre for Buddhists in Tibet. Afterward, enjoy a visit to Bakhor Street bazaar.

Day 12: City Tour of Lhasa

Your journey of discovery of Lhasa continues. Today, you will visit the city’s most important monasteries and get a closer look at Buddhism. Visit Drepung, Sera and Ganden Monasteries.

Nepal Visa: A tourist visa for Nepal is a strict requirement. This can be arranged on arrival at a cost of US$30 per person at Kathmandu/Nepal Airport, valid for 15 days. Visas must be arranged in USD currency at the border with two passport-sized photos. You must bring an additional two passport photos for your Tibet visa (which will be organised by the tour operator).

Important: Please allow time for travelling. International flights and airport transfers are not included in your package and must be purchased separately. It is your responsibility to make your own travel arrangements and ensure that you arrive in Kathmandu on your chosen tour date.

Booking Conditions: The tour operator will be in touch within 72 hours of purchasing the package. The booking forms must be returned to the tour operator within 7 days of purchasing the package. Reservations cannot be made until the booking form is returned to the tour operator.

Please note: Packages are not transferrable to any other person. The tour order, itinerary, departure dates and airlines cannot be changed after the tour has been confirmed in writing. Any changes to confirmed reservations will incur an A$150 change fee per person.

The package is valid for ONE PERSON (based on twin share). If you are travelling with another person you must purchase TWO PACKAGES, otherwise please purchase the SOLO TRAVELLER package. Solo travellers will get their own room throughout the tour.

Please note maximum baggage limit of 15kg applies on flights between Nepal and Tibet.

Travel insurance is highly recommended.

A visa may be required. It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they’re holding a current visa for the countries they’re visiting. Also, if the traveller is on a non-Australian passport, a valid re-entry visa may be required.

A valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers.

Name corrections may incur a fee. Name changes are not permitted.
