Would not recommend staying here — some staff is rude, racist and patriarchal. I had a terrible experience. When I walked in and asked for a check-in, the hotel staff (Peggy) asked me for how long I was staying here. When I said 2 weeks, she assumed that I was going to join their staff. It was extremely offensive and seemed to be racist. I had to clarify that I’m a guest. Even after that, I was left at the check in counter, waiting for about 20 minutes, and the check-in person said they would be back and never returned. I finally asked someone else for help with checking in. The theme continued while booking a helicopter tour — the person helping me book asked me what my name was. When I told him, he was taken aback, and said that he thought that was my husband’s name since it was the one on the registration, and then proceeded to ask me what my name was — note that I don’t have a husband, I was traveling with my cousin and paying for the trip. It was extremely rude to assume that a female cannot be paying for a reservation and assume that her husband must be paying for the stay. Additionally, the car valet costs $55 per day, and there was no indication of that made anywhere, leading to a bill of a couple of thousand dollars while checking out. There was no option to skip the valet either. The only good things were: a) location is very pretty b) the hotel rooms are gorgeous It seems to me that the hotel owners have done a wonderful job of building this beautiful resort and the decor is outstanding. However, my experience here with the staff (a combination of racism and patriarchy) drove me to tears and left me completely humiliated.
