Hotel Indigo Barcelona - Plaza Catalunya, an IHG Hotel

After my second visit at this hotel in 3 months, I feel confident to express my feelings about this hotel. Located right in the heart of Barcelona, it’s very conveniently placed right next to shops and restaurants in walking distance. As an IHG hotel, I enjoyed earning points and breakfast was quite extensive, including cook-to-order items. My rooms had a nice view, however beware of the street noise if you get a room on the front side. There are some potential improvements required, including the card reader which doesn’t always work and hotel staff is well aware of this fact.

Overall, a good hotel in terms of location. Close to the main areas of Barcelona regardless of business or leisure, but yet quiet and away from the usual crowd and noise. Front office staff Alina (if I remember her name correctly with glasses), very helpful and friendly. Always the one and only who says hi and smile every time one walk past the reception. Rooms, very good by European standard . The junior suite I suppose has a very nice bed and separate living , working area. A nice window, balcony that opens up to the backyard of the hotel where the pool and gym is located, which I’m Sure summer time will be fantastic. Breakfast was ok, wish daily varieties were being rotated. All in all, good good good and will recommend this hotel.

The only positive I have to say and the reason I give 2 stars rather than 1 is the location. The location is great. The hotel is very walkable to great restaurants and sights. When we checked in we were upgraded from a room with a balcony to a room without. We asked about that we were just told that it should have a balcony. But they offered nothing more. The bed was horrible. The mattress was hard as a rock and the bedding and pillows were very flimsy and cheap, uncomfortable even. When you walk into your room, you have to put your key card in the slot next to the door to turn the power on in the room. We always had to insert and pull out and reinsert several times for the power to actually kick on. The elevators are not a smart system. That means when calling an elevator you can call all of them individually, and every one does. The result is you wait forever to catch an elevator. Now the restaurant. The breakfast here is 18€. Don’t waste your money. We got breakfast included with our room and after the 3rd day we stopped going. The buffet is very small, of poor quality and almost entirely cold. Do yourself a favor and walk 1/2 block down the street and eat at Zenith. The food is incredible and cheaper than the buffet. We also asked about someplace to fill up our water bottle we were simply told no, buy some water from them for a very inflated price. We are frequent IHG customers and this hotel was a major disappointment. We come to Barcelona every year but we will not stay at this hotel again.
