Today is a foodie’s dream, as you prepare to taste the world-famous oysters of Coffin Bay. Embark on a meet-the-producer experience and glide through crystal-clear waters – where pods of local dolphins play – to a working farm just outside the township. Learn how these coveted molluscs became the culinary pearls of the sea, then watch as these plump beauties are shucked straight from the ocean. Once you have tasted them fresh from the source, you’ll understand why Coffin Bay is considered one of the world’s best oyster regions.
Back on land, enjoy a gourmet lunch at 1802 Oyster Bar, where Chef Andy will present a veritable feast of local delights. Bite into kingfish sashimi, wild-caught tuna, barbequed Spencer Gulf prawns, squid bao, chargrilled baby octopus and pan-fried abalone. The star of the meal is the whole King George whiting, with its famously delicate, sweet succulence.
In the afternoon, visit Coffin Bay National Park, home to Eyre Peninsula’s most pristine beaches, and stroll along their sparkling sands before returning to Port Lincoln, where the remains of the day are yours to enjoy.
For the ultimate gourmet experience, choose to join an optional five-course degustation with Peter Teakle wine pairing at The Line & Label to truly elevate your evening.
After breakfast, explore the stunning coastline at Sleaford Bay, where glistening waters may uncover local marine life. Later, a scenic drive through Whalers Way will bring you to Mikkira Station, home to the only wild koala population on the peninsula, as well as plenty of kangaroos and emus. In addition, the on-site historic homestead offers a glimpse back in time to the lives of the region’s pioneers.
In the afternoon, visit Boston Bay Wines for a world-class tasting of premium varietals at this second-generation, family-owned vineyard and be treated to a fabulously plated ‘Feed Me Fordie’ culinary experience.
Return to Port Lincoln well-fed, with the rest of the evening yours to enjoy once again.
As the tour draws to a close, spend your final morning exploring the last unturned stones of Port Lincoln or enjoy a leisurely walk along the foreshore. Your guide will drop you back at the airport at 11am, where you will be able to board your flight back to Adelaide with the group, your tour finally ending on arrival.
