Luxury Escapes Guide to Cairns

The one place in the world where you can skydive over the Great Barrier Reef, explore a coral cay and then enjoy a candle-lit dinner amid the rainforest.

Widely known as the getaway to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is the perennially warm, buzzing capital city of Tropical North Queensland, a hotspot for lovers of azure waters, postcard-perfect beaches and outdoor adventures.

With its year-round good weather and compact CBD, the town is a breeze to explore and offers a myriad of opportunities to shop, dine and relax. Stroll down the busy Esplanade to find an abundance of stylish bars, art galleries, boutique shops and innovative eateries, head out of town to embrace the region’s natural beauty or join locals at the waterfront lagoon for a swim and an ice cream.

Ideally positioned between the world-heritage wonder of the Great Barrier Reef and lush rainforest, Cairns is the ideal place from which to enjoy the wonders of Tropical North Queensland.

Pack your sense of adventure and get exploring: daytrips to the reef depart regularly from the Reef Fleet Terminal, scenic drives through palm-tree lined roads will see you landing in chic Palm Cove and laid-back Port Douglas, while the lush Daintree Rainforest – home to some of the world’s oldest plant species, is just a two hour’s drive from Cairns.

Visit the Cairns Night Markets

In 1991 Hayden Redfern and Elise Warring came up with the idea of setting up a night market, inspired by those often found in southeast Asia. They had just 28 vendors when they rented the space opposite Cairns’ lagoon. Little did they know that, years later, they would have over 131 stalls, 70 retail outlets and myriad of food options – creating a bustling space that attracts over 2.7 million people every year. As the sun sets on the promenade, the lights go on at the market: this is a one-stop destination to grab some dinner on a breezy night, shop for locally made goods and hunt for bargains.
