Day 1: Depart Launceston — Cape Naturaliste — Mt. William National Park | 13km walking, approx. 5 hours (easy — moderate)
You will be picked up from the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston at 7.45am for an 8am departure. Head out into the northern section of Mt. William National Park through Lilydale and the Pipers River wine region to begin the Bay of Fires beach walk at Cape Naturaliste – the most northern point of your four-day wander. Walk from the remote coastal conservation area of Cape Naturaliste to the summit of Mt. William, predominantly on the hour-glass fine sands. The incredibly scenic coastline is punctuated by windswept headlands, sheltered lagoons and estuaries, with resident sea birds including oystercatchers and hooded plovers. Following on from this, head off for an easy one-hour return walk to the top of Mt. William. From the peak (216m) in clear weather, you can enjoy extensive views over the coast and inland, while to the north you’ll see some of the Bass Strait islands. Afterwards, walk to Icea Farmhouse, your home-away-from-home, for pre-dinner nibbles and a two-course meal prepared by your guides.

Day 2: Boulder Point — Deep Creek | 13km, approx. 5 hours (moderate)
After breakfast and lunch preparation, head off for the day’s beach walk from Boulder Point to Deep Creek in Mt. William National Park. From its long beaches to its teeming wildlife and its unique history to its abundant plant life, Mt. William National Park is a place of constant fascination. This section is one of the more remote and untouched along the trail. Explore Boulder Point, Cobler Rocks and Cod Bay, finishing at Deep Creek. Today’s trek includes some sand walking and while there are some rocky areas around the headlands to navigate, the scenery is well worth the effort — especially the hot-red granite boulders covered in bright orange lichen and wildlife, including wombats, black swans, and Tasmanian native hens. Finish the day at Deep Creek with an afternoon tea stop — depending on the weather, this is the ideal place for a quick refreshing dip.

Day 3: Deep Creek — Eddystone Point — Ansons Bay | 15km, approx. 6 hours (moderate)
After breakfast and lunch preparation, begin today’s walk at Eddystone Point with a visit to the impressive pink granite lighthouse, built in 1889. This natural promontory is a fascinating site of historic importance surrounded by windswept beach dunes and birdlife, such as albatross and gannets. Discover seemingly endless coves, shelly beaches and small bays, before ending the day at the beautiful Ansons Bay. Birdlife here is rich and varied, with nearly 100 species found within, including the superb blue wren, flame, dusk and scarlet robin. After the day’s walk, head back to your accommodation for well-earned pre-dinner nibbles followed by a fabulous two-course meal prepared by your guides.

Day 4: Policemans Point — The Gardens — Return to Launceston | 15 km, approx. 4—5 hours (moderate)
After breakfast and lunch preparation, head into the Bay of Fires Conservation area for the last day of walking. Beginning at Policemans Point, traverse the iconic white sands you have come to know as the beautiful Bay of Fires. Most of today’s walking is along the wide, sandy beaches, crossing over Pebbly Beach, Break Yoke Beach and Gardens Lagoon Beach to your final destination, The Gardens. Along the way, you will navigate some tricky rocky headlands which consist of 3km x 1km sections of large, loose rock, as well as forested tracks. From here, head back toward Launceston. The tour aims to be back in Launceston by approximately 5pm, so if you’re flying out after the tour please do not book flights before 6.30pm.
