Visit the historic Bridestowe Lavender Estate, the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees site, Bicheno (where you’ll have the option to take a wildlife tour to see either wild penguins, when in season, or Tasmanian Devils), the majestic Freycinet National Park, charming Richmond, Port Arthur Historic Site and the Isle of the Dead en route to Hobart.

Day 1: Hobart
Welcome to Hobart, where your adventure begins. Take an afternoon tour of the city, and admire sights such as Battery Point, Salamanca Place, the Botanic Gardens, Constitution Dock and Mt. Nelson. In the evening, enjoy a welcome reception and dinner with your travel director and fellow travellers.

Day 2: Hobart to Strahan
Today, travel west via New Norfolk to Mt. Field National Park — one of Tasmania’s oldest and most diverse national parks. Enjoy a short stroll through the heart of the lush rainforest en route to the cascading Russell Falls. Discovered in 1856, Russell Falls is regarded as one of Tasmania’s most treasured and photographed places. Afterwards, catch a glimpse of the deepest freshwater lake in Australia as you drive past Lake St. Clair. This afternoon, you will reach Strahan, the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.

Day 3: Strahan to Cradle Mountain
This morning, board a scenic Gordon River cruise and glide across Macquarie Harbour and Hells Gates. Stopping at Sarah Island, be given an insight into a relic of Tasmania’s lesser-known convict history, the Macquarie Harbour Penal Settlement. Afterwards, see Hells Gates, the treacherous entrance to the harbour, and Heritage Landing, site of a 2,000-year-old Huon Pine. Afterwards, travel through the mining towns of Rosebery and Tullah on your way to Cradle Mountain.

Day 4: Cradle Mountain to Smithton
Wake early this morning to marvel at the inspiring beauty of Cradle Mountain National Park. On a walk with your travel director, head to Dove Lake, where you may spot Bennett’s wallabies, echidnas and pademelons grazing along the way. Travel on through the rolling green hills to Table Cape, where spectacular views of the Bass Strait wait. Heading further west, Stanley is in your sights. On arrival, enjoy views of the sheer-sided Stanley bluff, known as ‘The Nut’, and take some time to explore. Afterwards, you will continue onwards to Smithton.

Day 5: Smithton to Launceston
Travel through the picturesque coastal townships of Burnie, Penguin — where a sustainability activity will be enjoyed — and Ulverstone, before reaching Sheffield. Here, you will learn about the dairy production methods and indulge in a cheese tasting at the award-winning Ashgrove Tasmanian Farm. Afterwards, you will make your way to Launceston.

Day 6: Launceston
After breakfast, visit the unique natural formation of Cataract Gorge before an orientation tour of the city. You will then say farewell as your exploration comes to an end. Transfer to Launceston Airport for your departure flight.

10-Day East Coast Extension
Day 6: Launceston
After breakfast, visit the unique natural formation of Cataract Gorge before an orientation tour of the city. With time permitting, consider an optional experience on a Cataract Gorge River Cruise, a winery tour or perhaps stay local.

Day 7: Launceston to Bicheno
After breakfast, the Bridestowe Lavender Estate is your first stop. Set against the backdrop of Mount Arthur, Bridestowe Lavender Estate is the largest lavender farm in the Southern Hemisphere. Here, walk through its beautiful ornamental gardens and manicured fields with camera in hand. Afterwards, treat yourself to a delicious range of lavender-inspired delicacies. Later, visit the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees, which have been sculpted into World War One soldiers. Upon reaching Bicheno this evening, you might like to take an optional experience tour.

Day 8: Bicheno to Hobart
Today, experience the grandeur of Freycinet National Park. On a guided walk to the lookout at Cape Tourville, enjoy astonishing views across the brilliant blue water, secluded bays, bird-filled lagoons, verdant forests and beautiful beaches. En route to Hobart, travel through Swansea and Orford before stopping in Richmond for lunch. Renowned for its beautifully preserved Georgian architecture, Richmond’s heritage buildings date back as early as 1820. You will reach Hobart in the afternoon, where world-class restaurants and attractions await.

Day 9: Port Arthur
This morning, visit UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site. There is a lot to see and do at Australia’s most intact convict site, with more than 30 historic buildings and ruins to explore over 100 acres. On a guided walk, learn stories of its past, before a cruise around the Isle of the Dead — Port Arthur’s cemetery island and final resting place for more than 1,000 convicts, military and civil officers, women and children. On return to Hobart, you witness the amazing natural rock formations of the craggy Tasman Arch, the Devil’s Kitchen and the Blowhole. This evening, mingle with your travel director and fellow travellers one last time at a farewell dinner in one of Hobart’s popular restaurants.
