From here, you’ll explore its many antique stores and vibrant markets, before reaching the medieval city of Aigues-Mortes — where you’ll stay right among the city walls at Villa Mazarin, which is literally set into the imposing ramparts. You’ll also discover Arles, where Vincent van Gogh painted his masterpiece, Starry Night.
Your tour begins in Nice and ends in Avignon (or Aigues-Mortes on the extended tour).

Day 1: Arrive Nice, France
Welcome to Nice. Nicknamed ‘Nissa la Bella’ — Nice the Beautiful — this seaside city is a picturesque gem on the French Riviera. A transfer from Nice Train Station or Nice Côte d’Azur Airport can be arranged for a fee. Once you’ve checked into your hotel, enjoy an afternoon at leisure to discover independently.
In the evening, meet your guide and fellow travellers for sunset cocktails before a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2: Nice
After breakfast, venture to the highest part of Nice (Castle Hill) where fabulous panoramic views await. On a clear day, you can see from Antibes, along the bay to Old Port, and as far as Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Climb the many stairs to the top, or take the lift, and learn of the city’s fascinating rich and varied history.
Then, it’s off to the famous Marché aux Fleurs — an iconic flower market that has been selling flowers to the public for more than 100 years. Wander through the aisle, taking photographs of the brightly coloured displays, or sit at one of the many tables and try a few of the homemade local delicacies before washing it down with a glass of rosé. Just don’t eat too much, as lunch is enjoyed at a lovely bistro nearby, followed by a scoop of the Riviera’s best ice cream.
Why not spend the rest of the day exploring the city’s excellent shopping, museums and galleries? Should you wish to explore further, your tour guide can assist with arrangements for tours along the coast to Monte Carlo or to the village of Eze (surcharges apply).

Day 3: Nice — La Cadière-d’Azur
With a morning at leisure, the choice is yours. Head out for a picturesque walk along the beautiful beachfront, make tracks to the weekly brocante or bric-a-brac markets or simply people watch from a nearby café with a fresh coffee in hand.
Afterwards, head west along the French Riviera stopping inland at one of Provence’s most beautiful villages. Upon arrival, be seduced by the town’s historic charm, narrow roads, colourful flower arrangements and ancient architecture, as well as remarkable street sculptures. With the imprint of the past remarkably conserved everywhere you look, it’s little wonder many artists and celebrities chose to stay here including Picasso, Winston Churchill, Christian Dior and Edith Piaf.
Continue to La Cadière-d’Azur, an idyllic hilltop town, for the next two nights. This medieval village offers remarkable views over the Bandol vineyard, Sainte-Baume and the bay of La Ciotat. Your hotel’s ideal location ensures a village walk at dusk is one to remember, while a smattering of delightful local bistros will beckon you.

Day 4: La Cadière-d’Azur
After breakfast, take a short and truly spectacular mountain drive over the highest sea cliff in France. At this height, the views are simply breathtaking.
Upon arrival at the charming seaside village of Cassis, join a morning wander through the village and delightful port, before boarding a cruise boat for a jaunt along the French Riviera. Sailing through sparkling turquoise waters known as the Calanques, or narrow limestone inlets for which Cassis is famous, you’ll be struck by the sheer beauty of the passing scenery. Time permitting, you may also be given the opportunity to spend the afternoon sailing on a private vessel (surcharges apply), which will stop for refreshments and swimming opportunities.

Day 5: La Cadière-d’Azur — Crillon-le-Brave
Leave Cote D’ Azur and head north into the spectacular countryside of the Luberon, made famous by the author Peter Mayle. On the way, stop to visit a one-of-a-kind art gallery set in a 2500-square foot soaring underground limestone quarry. Admire the projected works of art, many of which are choreographed to exquisite music.
Afterwards, enjoy a typical lunch in a charming local bistro, before following the scent of wild herbs into the hills. Home for the next four nights is a beautiful French villa in a charming village with amazing vistas wherever you look. Spend the evening at leisure.

Day 6: Châteauneuf-du-Pape — Crillon-le-Brave
Embark on an exciting day of exploration and wine tasting. Led by your own private sommelier and expert, internationally-renowned wine guide (a former head sommelier for Alan Ducasse), today you will be taken to some of the most pre-eminent private vineyards of the southern Côtes-du-Rhône.
Stopping in the charming village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, take your time as you browse through a superb wine boutique before visiting the historic ruins of the Pope’s summer palace — which was once the seat of the Vatican for more than 70 years. Your wine expert will share his vast knowledge during the spectacular four-course wine and food pairing lunch. Then wind your way home, stopping at some superb wineries before returning to the hotel terrace for sunset drinks and an introduction to the “nez du vin’’ where you’ll learn how sommeliers train their sense of smell.

Day 7: Crillon-le-Brave
After breakfast head out for a very special cooking class in perhaps the most beautiful village in Provence. The morning starts with a guided walk in the foothills of the highest mountain in Provence, Mt Ventoux. Learn the art of picking edible plants and flowers whilst foraging for additions to your lunch. Gain an understanding of the amazing homeopathic and medicinal qualities of the plants. Adjourn to a private home in this idyllic village and take part in an entertaining hands-on cooking class hosted by a delightful fourth-generation villager. Then, it’s off to the medieval city of Aigues-Mortes, located in the Occitanie area of southern France. A lively little town encircled by medieval city walls, towers and gates, this fortified city is yours to explore for the day. Upon arrival, settle into your charming boutique hotel — forged right within the village’s imposing ramparts — then take to the ancient streets.

Day 10: Arles
Today we head to the famous Roman town of Arles, where Vincent van Gogh painted Starry Night. Take your time this morning, with time at leisure. Choose to wander through the cobblestone laneways once more, seek out that elusive souvenir, enjoy a long breakfast or sleep in. On a guided tour of the distillery, learn all about the aromatised fortified wine before watching a cocktail-making demonstration followed by a cocktail-making masterclass.

Bookings (except for cruise bookings and flights) may be cancelled with a full refund provided that cancellation occurs strictly within 7 days from the date of purchase and provided that the cancellation is made no less than 90 days prior to the departure date.
Date Changes
- You can enjoy unlimited, free date changes up until 90 days prior to original travel date, which are available via ‘My Escapes’, on request only.
- Alternatively, you can cancel your tour booking up until 90 days prior to original travel date, with credit towards future travel for any Limited Time Lux Exclusive accommodation, tour or cruise package, excludes flights. Additional charges for date changes that result in a higher value will be charged to your account. Credit must be used within 12 months of issue date. Tour Baggage Restrictions

Tipping

Fitness Requirements
Travellers acknowledge that they are required to have a good level of health and fitness to undertake the activities in this tour. Further, travellers acknowledge and agree that neither Luxury Escapes nor the tour provider will be able to provide medical or other assistance in the event that they are unable to complete any aspect of the tour as a result of their health or physical condition (nor is Luxury Escapes liable for any loss, damage, expense, injury or death arising from such).
Dietary Requirements
In most cases Luxury Escapes can cater for special dietary requirements but please note that on occasion, this may not be possible due to location, lack of availability of ingredients, and other extenuating circumstances. It is always advised to carry supplies with you.
Any dietary requirements must be received by Luxury Escapes at least 30 days prior to your scheduled departure date. Failure to provide these details by this date may result in an inability to cater for your requirements.
Valued Up To
The value and comparative savings have been determined based on published rack rates and the value of inclusions. Please be advised that rack rates may not be reflective of actual rates being charged, dependent on the timing and manner of your booking and therefore are only indicative of the level of saving.
Itinerary Amendments & Changes
Occasionally our itineraries are updated prior to departure to incorporate improvements stemming from past travellers’ feedback as well as updates from our ground operators. Please note that while we operate successful tours in this region throughout the year, some changes may be necessary due to inclement weather, public holidays, common seasonal changes to timetables and transport routes, and unforeseen circumstances. This can happen with little notice so please be prepared for modifications to the route. The order and timing of included activities may also vary from time to time.
Surcharges
After completing your booking, your tour cost may be subject to additional surcharges as a result of factors beyond the control of Luxury Escapes. Where the cost of delivering your selected tour materially increases between the time of purchase and delivery, Luxury Escapes reserves the right to increase the balance due. Increases may be in relation to, but not limited to, currency fluctuations, taxes, airfares, fuel surcharges or tour costs where those costs have increased for similar reasons. A material increase will be considered once in excess of 10% of the package price.
Any prices quoted exclude specific costs/measures which may be introduced at a later stage as a result of Government changes due to Covid-19 health and safety restrictions. Luxury Escapes will inform its guests of these changes as soon as possible, these additional charges will be passed on by Luxury Escapes to the guest.
