Among antique buildings and cobbled streets, Santiago’s historic centre revolves around the Plaza de Armas. From here, you can take in the stunning colonnades and soaring ceilings of the Metropolitan Cathedral or set off through the civic district to Palacio de La Moneda, the seat of the President of Chile. Elsewhere, the city’s oldest and most sophisticated neighbourhoods owe their grandeur to the wealth of the country’s extravagant nitrate mining boom.
This morning, enjoy a refreshing breakfast at your hotel, then join your guide for a tour of some of these must-see Santiago spots, culminating at San Cristobal Hill for a glittering view of the cityscape.
Spend the rest of your day at leisure. Later, perhaps you’ll choose to step out into the glitter and movement of Santiago’s nightlife in the popular Bellavista district.
After breakfast, it’s time to follow the call of the ocean for a visit to the port city of Valparaiso. Known as the ‘Jewel of the Pacific’, Valparaiso’s vivid houses and hilly streets also earn it the title of ‘Little San Francisco’.
Next, pass through neighbouring Vina del Mar on your way to the stunning Viñamar winery, where you will sample flavours of the Casablanca Valley on a vinyard tour and tasting of their signature sparkling wines. Soak up scenery at Macerado Bistró over a mouthwatering lunch made from locally produced ingredients that reflect the story of this plentiful valley.
Later, return to Santiago for an evening spent freely.
Wake to a filling breakfast and gather your energy before transferring to Santiago International Airport (SCL) and your flight to Calama (CJC).
The gateway to the Atacama Desert, Calama is one of the driest cities in the world. From here, take air-conditioned private transport to Hotel Cumbres San Pedro de Atacama at the edge of the desert.
Wood, stone and warm tones combine to seamlessly integrate this desert oasis into the striking landscape of the arid plateau. Settle in for the evening, grab a drink at the bar and prepare for a dazzling cosmic display thanks to the region’s consistently clear skies.
With its striking contrast of vast desert and vibrant flora, the Atacama is unlike any other place on Earth. Distinctive rock formations and cracked valleys dominate in the otherworldy Valle de la Luna, and the shifting shades of the sunset transform its sandy canvas into a shadow play of colour and cacti.
At the precipice of the plateau, the next two days are free to spend as you please. Perhaps you’ll choose to take a mountain biking tour of its expanse. Elsewhere, over 80 geysers simmer under the geothermal field of El Tatio, transporting you to a Martian plain.
When you’re not making the most of your daily included excursions, you can recline by the pool at your elegant accommodation or organise a spa treatment to rejuvenate in solitude.
After an unforgettable stay in this unique desert destination, it’s time to transfer back to El Loa Airport (CJC) for your return flight to Santiago (SCL).
Spend the rest of your day revisiting your favourite spots, or choose to seek out famous Santiago treats, such as the fried sopaipilla dough or creamy caramel leche asada.
Your Chilean adventure reaches its end today, as you transfer to Santiago Airport (SCL) and wave goodbye to your fellow travellers.
Known worldwide for its impeccable wine varieties infused with inimitable Chilean terroir, the Casablanca Valley resides between the pristine coastal mountains and the sparkling Pacific. Within this delving expanse, Viñamar Winery provides guests with delicious glimpses into the varietals this country is known for. With a focus on sparkling wines in particular, there’s something for every palate. You’re invited to taste their elegant and beautifully balanced Extra Brut while surrounded by rolling mountains and rows of lush vines.
Set on a high plateau in the Andes mountains of northeast Chile, San Pedro offers visitors a gateway to the extraordinary Atacama Desert. From thrilling adventures to mouthwatering gastronomy, this destination offers a multitude of experiences. Use San Pedro as your base while you explore the unearthly valleys, ancient ruins, and enchanting high-altitude lagoons of the Atacama Desert. Gaze at the world’s clearest night sky on an astronomy tour or take a peaceful stroll away from the town’s lights – the sight will leave an indelible mark on your soul. Embrace the charms of town, indulge in empanadas and embark on unforgettable adventures.
