Perfect for beginners, this small-group cycling tour operates at a relaxed pace utilising Hawke’s Bay’s bike-friendly terrain with comfortable guided cycles each day. Known as one of the 18 Great Rides in The New Zealand Cycle Trail, you’ll see the best views of the region when you take off on two wheels. 

Your tour takes in New Zealand’s North IslandHawke's Bay; a 5.5-hour drive or short 45-minute flight from Auckland or 4-hour drive or 40-minute flight from Wellington. With all cycling equipment supplied, this package is a wonderful addition to any North Island holiday. This is a fantastic and unique way to experience New Zealand’s spectacular natural surrounds and famous wineries.

Experience the finest local produce during your exploration of Hawke's Bay when you stop off at the grower’s market. Enjoy beautiful regional food and fresh produce – the same seasonal ingredients that Blackbarn’s chef will be using to prepare your dinner that night.

Taste the award-winning wines that have made Hawke's Bay famous across the world. Your tour includes exclusive wine tastings at both Blackbarn Vineyard and Ngatarawa, where you’ll be personally guided by Head Winemaker Peter Gough.

Stay in one of the most picturesque locations in New Zealand. Wake up in luxury boutique accommodation to a delicious breakfast overlooking the vines, with coffee from Rocket to fuel you for the day ahead.

Your Package Includes

Five days/four nights guided cycling tour in a small group (max 10 guests) with nightly accommodation at Blackbarn.

Daily guided rides – cycling up to 55km along easy flat terrain:

Day 2 - Ride a fabulous loop to Haumoana onto Te Awanga then Clifton for expansive views of Cape Kidnappers. On your return you'll cycle along the Tuki Tuki river with a short stop in Havelock North

Day 3 - Cycle through the seaside village of Ahuriri before heading north to Westshore and onto Bay View then head inland along the pleasant limestone trails. Your trail loops back past the renowned Church Road winery and then back to the coast at Awatoto.

Day 4 - Summit the Sleeping Giant (Te Mata Peak) or be driven to the peak for 360-degree views over Hawke's Bay. Glide over slopes into Havelock North before looping through Hawke's Bay's western wine growing area where you'll stop off at Ngatarawa Winery.

Day 5 - Enjoy trails lined with picturesque fruit trees on one side and the Tuki Tuki river on the other. You'll ride along the seaside path before arriving into Napier to the iconic Norfolk Palm

All meals. Taste your way around the region with delicious meals at a variety of restaurants and bistros in Hawke's Bay. Arrival Day 1

On arrival at Napier airport you will be met by a Ventouro staff, depending on time we may stop by Napier the Art-Deco city of New Zealand on our way to your Black Barn retreat set in the Tuki Tuki valley. Here you will really start your holiday overlooking the vines followed by a meal with our in-house chef that will set the standard for our week ahead. Lodging: Black Barn Retreat

Day 2

Landscapes Ride Cape Kidnappers
Distance 55km, Grade 1 - 2 Easiest/Easy
Today is the first full day of the trip, from the doorstep of our Black Barn lodge we will ride a fabulous loop to Haumoana onto Te Awanga then Clifton. Here we get expansive views of Cape Kidnappers. We then return on the other side of the Tuki Tuki river with a short stop in Havelock North, before returning via Red Bridge.

Day 3

Water ride - Napier
50km, Grade 1 Easiest 
With a short transfer into Napier we start our ride at the bustling seaside village of Ahuriri, where coffee is usually first on the agenda. We head north towards Westshore and onto Bay View, before heading inland along the pleasant limestone trails. The trail loops back towards Napier Airport, then it's a short ride onto the renowned Church Road winery. After lunch we continue the trail back to the coast arriving at Awatoto.

Day 4

Te Mata Peak - Vineyards ride
35- 55km, Grade 2 - 3 Easy/Intermediate
A trip to Hawkes Bay is never complete without summiting the Sleeping Giant (Te Mata Peak) and for those keen on a challenge the 6km 399m peak offers a very rewarding view. If you are keen to save your energy we will also drive up the peak, so everyone gets to experience the 360° views over the Hawkes Bay. After gliding the slopes into Havelock North we loop through the Hawke’s Bay’s western wine growing area, where we will end our day at Ngatarawa Winery.

Day 5

Havelock North to Napier - Beachfront
Distance 25km, Grade 1 Easy 
We will depart your retreat after a relaxed breakfast and head into the quaint village of Havelock North, from here we will head along trail towards the sea, with fruit trees on one side and the Tuki Tuki river on other. The final part of the journey is along the seaside path before arriving into Napier to the iconic Norfolk Palms that line the main road. Here we will have lunch before heading for the airport or if you prefer to stay a night in town we will drop you at your accommodation.
