Experience the treasures of the Levant with luxury hotel stays

Take a trip through some of the Levant’s most historically intriguing countries, Israel & The Palestinian Territories and Jordan. Experience a heady mix of archaeological wonder and modern culture while visiting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, plunge into the salt-filled waters of the Dead Sea, stand in awe of the preserved ancient city of Petra and drive through the timeless deserts of Wadi Rum. Adventure to this religious heartland with 14 days of sightseeing, first-class hotel stays, select meals and more for just $2,739 per person (twin share), valued at $3,571.

Highlights

Get a taste of Jerusalem’s rich history on a tour through the culturally diverse Old City and the museums and memorials of the New City. Experience the Davidson Centre’s treasure trove of archaeological finds, wander to the tunnels of the holy Western Wall, get a better understanding of Holocaust atrocities at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Centre and explore the city’s former main street, The Cardo – full of stalls hiding amongst fascinating architecture dating back 1500 years.

Visit Yardenit – a popular baptism site known as ‘little Jordan’. This fascinating place of pilgrimage, lying at the edge of the Sea of Galilee, is said to be close to where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist. Numerous references in the Old Testament and New Testament imply its biblical importance and sanctity – as do the people who don on white robes and plunge into the waters to this day.

Ascend Mount Nebo, the sacred ridge where Moses was purportedly granted a view of the Promised Land. Gaze upon a breathtaking view of the Holy Land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea at this site reputed to be the burial place of Moses himself - according to Christian tradition.

Soak yourself in the healing salts of the Dead Sea, bordered by Israel, Palestine and Jordan. These mineral-rich waters, sitting at the lowest elevated point on the earth, serve as one of the world’s first and longest running health resorts for climatotherapy, heliotherapy and thalassotherapy. Not only that, the waters are so dense that swimming here feels more like floating, and you’ll get the chance spend plenty of time basking here during your overnight stay at the luxurious five-star Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa.

Wander through one of the “Seven Wonders of the Modern World” – the ancient sandstone city of Petra. Hidden from the western world until 1812, Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt re-discovered this ancient carved city and shared it with the world. John William Burgon famously described it in a poem as a “rose-red city half as old as time”, UNESCO dubbed it one of the most precious cultural properties of man’s cultural heritage, and you’ll more than likely remember it as an awe-inspiring experience.

Come face to face with the Bedouin people in the deserts of Wadi Rum, also known as “The Valley of the Moon”. Take an unforgettable 4WD ride past the sandstone vistas, the towering Seven Pillars of Wisdom rock formation amongst other monoliths and enchanting coloured deserts in a place used for countless film shoots, from Lawrence of Arabia to Ridley Scott’s The Martian. You’ll then wind things up with a Bedouin Zarb – a delicious traditional barbecue of meat and vegetables roasted under the earth.

Luxury Accommodation

Located on the edge of the restorative Dead Sea, the Jordan Valley Marriott Resort and Spa will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable hotels you visit during this adventure, if not all of them. The edge of the centralised infinity pool, restaurant terraces and many of the suites yield astounding views of the Dead Sea and its surrounding foothills, while the immaculately designed interiors are equally worthy of praise. The deluxe bedding, fine dining and spa options add comfort to this already stunning location.

You would be hard-pressed to find a more charming location to begin your exploration of ancient Petra than at the Petra Marriott Hotel. Overlooking Jordan’s iconic wind-shaped cliffs, this hotel offers a blend of anticipatory and traditional service to exceed all expectations in this haven of comfort and luxury. Tuck into Middle Eastern specialities over lunch and dinner at the on-site restaurant, take to the outdoor pool for a stunning glimpse of the Petra Mountains or rejuvenate your body with a Turkish bath, sauna or massage – you’ll never be short for choice at this exceptional retreat.

Experience the wonders of Jordan’s capital from the Marriott Amman, nestled in the depths of Amman’s downtown district sitting merely footsteps from brilliant structures such as the Citadel and the Roman Amphitheatre. Choose to spend the final night of your adventure to explore the city at your leisure, or perhaps take one of the many treatments at the soothing spa, test your fitness at the health club or simply kick back in one of the luxurious rooms or suites.

What We Like

Wadi Rum, one of the last major attractions of this tour, has an air about it which speaks of the beginning of time. The mountains are wind-carved and ancient and the desert is hypnotically colourful – these are just some of the reasons that film directors often come here to shoot blockbuster films.
