Live the Mediterranean dream on Korčula, one of Croatia’s best-kept secrets. The island is known for its dense forest, beautiful beaches and medieval architecture and claims to be the birthplace of merchant and traveller Marco Polo (although it has competition from Venice, which also makes the claim). Historical rivalries aside, Korčula is perfect for couples and families looking for an island stopover in a bucket-list destination.

What You’ll Love…

The Hotel – Two beaches, four pools and countless activities

In a quiet bay surrounded by lush green forest, you’ll find Port 9 Resort the ideal base for exploring the island of Korčula. You’ll find everything you need on-site, including six bars, four restaurants, four pools (one regular, one infinity and two kids’ pools) and a spa.

Ideal for families, the resort offers the Marko Polo Kids’ Club (for children aged 1 - 11 years), featuring arts, crafts, sports, geography, history and more, a children’s playground, mini-golf, climbing wall, table tennis, plus bike and canoe rental.

The resort also has two small beaches (one pebble, one sand), which is perfect if you fancy a quick dip in the sea or spot of sunbathing.

The Room – A complimentary Superior Room upgrade

Your package includes a complimentary upgrade to a Superior Room, offering comfortable double or twin beds, an en suite bathroom with tub and shower and a private balcony or terrace. You’ll also benefit from free Wi-Fi and a bottle of wine in your room on arrival, perfect for toasting to the start of a great holiday.

Family Upgrade: Upgrade your package and stay in a Family Room, featuring two bedrooms, an adults’ bathroom with a tub, a kids’ bathroom with a shower and a private balcony or terrace. Packages are valid for two adults and two kids (aged 11 and under), with full inclusions.

The Food – Daily breakfast and nightly dinner

Wake up each morning to a full buffet breakfast at either Matrikula or Madir restaurant, with outdoor tables on terraces with views of the bay. On offer, you’ll find fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurts, sliced cured meats and cheeses, plus omelettes cooked-to-order.

Return every evening for a buffet dinner featuring an array of international delights and Mediterranean specialties.

See & Do – Explore Medieval Korcula and the nearby islands

When you’re not making the most of hotel’s fantastic activities and facilities, head into Korčula town either by foot (a 30-minute walk) or using the regular taxi boat service. Take in the medieval Old Town with its fantastic architecture and charming squares and churches or enjoy a drink and snack in one of the many bars, cafés and restaurants. The Land Gate, Revellin tower, St. Mark’s Cathedral, Abbey Treasury and Marco Polo’s House should definitely make it onto your sightseeing list, with a bike tour the ideal way to discover the island’s delights. Pick up a palačinke from a street-side cart. Many travellers skip the street food and head straight for the restaurants, but one bite of this traditional Croatian snack - reminiscent of a thin crepe - will have you coming back for more. Choose from a bunch of fillings like cheese, mushrooms, homemade sausage, and even Nutella.

Although Korčula town is where most visitors stay, Badija, the region's most beautiful treasure, is what will steal your heart. The unpopulated island is a mere 20-minute ferry ride from Korčula town and is almost desolate. 90 minutes is all you need to walk around the 240-acre islet, the majority of which will be unaccompanied. So bring your kindle, pack some lunch and enjoy alone time on a deserted island surrounded by water that is many shades of blue.
