The Hotel – Five-star luxury meets natural beauty

Flameback Eco Lodge is the only hotel to enjoy a prime position in the heart of the Weerawila Bird Sanctuary, making a stay here a truly unique experience. A collection of luxury lodges is nestled into the stunning surrounds, with the hotel also offering an infinity pool, lounge bar, gourmet restaurant, organic garden and activities such as traditional weaving sessions with a local expert and cookery demonstrations.

Flameback prides itself on living in harmony with nature and the local community, implementing a number of initiatives to ensure greener tourism. These include using biodegradable materials for construction, maximising LED and natural lighting and using a wastewater treatment plant. Most of the food used in the restaurant is locally sourced (with some straight from the lodge’s own garden) and much of the amenities, such as laundry bags, candles and artwork, were crafted by talented locals.

Arrive at this unique property in style with a complimentary private airport pick-up and a welcome cocktail on the evening of arrival, choosing between a Lemongrass Martini, Arrack Cocktail or Cuba Libra. Your trip is rounded off with another cocktail each on your final evening.

The Surrounds – Stay in the midst of rare bird species

Nature lovers will appreciate the beauty and the peace and quiet of the Weerawila Sanctuary. The environment here consists largely of wetlands, making it the perfect home for a number of bird species. Birds you’re likely to spot include the Lesser Flamingo, Spoonbill, Painted Stork, Pelican, Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Darter and Black Necked Stork. Migrating species who visit the park include the Piontail, Whimbren and Eurasian Curlew.

Your Deluxe Luxury Lodge provides 39sqm of space, including a private wooden deck with a direct view of the lake. You’ll also benefit from a king bed, air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, tea-and-coffee-making facilities, a bathrobe, slippers and complimentary bottled water.

Lodges combine the charm of a South African-made tented lodge with teak rustic furniture and luxurious amenities to provide the ultimate glamping experience.

The Food – Daily breakfast and dinner, including a romantic candlelit meal

Flameback’s restaurant offers a fusion of international and local cuisine, served on a raised platform extending to a wooden deck that faces the lake.

Begin each morning here with a complimentary breakfast, including a glass of fresh juice, tea or coffee, fruit platter, assorted bread basket and a hot dish of potatoes, baked beans, grilled tomato or mushrooms and bacon or sausages. Those who prefer can swap their hot continental breakfast for a traditional Sri Lankan dish of curry, rice and coconut roti.

You’ll also enjoy a nightly three-course dinner at the restaurant – with an upgrade to a romantic candle-lit dinner on a night of your choice. Choosing from a set menu, you can expect continental dishes such as chicken cordon bleu and traditional Sri Lankan curries.

With dishes curated by the head chef using appetising organic ingredients, vegetables, fruit and grain sourced from the local community and the option to dine on the deck under the stars, you’re guaranteed unforgettable evenings.
