After breakfast, transfer through Uganda’s countryside to Kibale National Park for a two-night, all-inclusive stay at Kyaninga Lodge.
Perched above a crater lake with views of Lake Kyaninga and the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, the lodge features nine treehouse-inspired cottages offering an intimate retreat.
This afternoon, embark on a game drive through Kibale National Park, home to a diverse array of primates, including red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons, and black-and-white colobus. The park also hosts birdlife and, with luck, you might catch sight of a wandering herd of elephants.
Travel time: Driving – approx. 6.5 hours
Early this morning, take a guided walk through Bigodi Swamp, a grassland habitat teeming with primates and birdlife. Keep an eye out for the great blue turaco as you explore.
In the afternoon, set off on a chimpanzee tracking adventure. Kibale National Park, home to around 1,500 chimpanzees, offers one of the best opportunities in Africa to see these remarkable creatures in their natural environment. Follow your ranger to locate habituated communities and learn about efforts to protect their habitat and population, with just 4,950 chimps remaining in Uganda’s wild.
After your encounter, take time to explore the park’s rich biodiversity with your guide. Return to your lodge in the evening to relax, enjoy the pool, or simply take in the stunning views.
Travel time: Driving – approx. two hours
Chimpanzee tracking adventure
Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s oldest and largest reserves. Nestled at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains and flanked by Lakes Edward and George, the park’s savannah plains offer great game viewing. Spot elephants, leopards, gazelles, lions, and hippos as you explore.
As dusk falls, embark on a night game drive in an open safari vehicle. With your ranger’s guidance, discover the nocturnal wonders of the savannah, from prowling leopards to elusive chameleons.
Travel time: Driving – approx. three hours
Rise early for a sunrise game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Experience the park in a new light as you search for elephants, lions, Uganda kobs, and warthogs in the morning glow.
Return to your lodge for a well-deserved lunch before heading out on a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. This wildlife-rich waterway is a magnet for animals seeking a drink or a cool dip. Keep an eye out for buffalo, waterbuck, crocodiles, and an array of birdlife. The channel is also home to one of the world’s largest hippo populations and offers a chance to observe elephants at the water’s edge.
Bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth National Park and journey across the Ugandan plains to the breathtaking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Arrive at Mahogany Springs Lodge, nestled in the heart of this lush landscape. Savour lunch and take time to relax, preparing for the adventures ahead.
Travel time: Driving – approx. four hours
Start early with a safety briefing before venturing into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to track the mountain gorilla.
Bwindi is one of the few places where mountain gorillas and chimpanzees coexist, making it the jewel of Uganda’s parks. Follow your guide through the forest in search of these gentle giants. Along the way, your guide will point out signs of gorilla activity, such as nests, dung, and chewed bamboo shoots, while also highlighting the diverse wildlife, including over 200 species of butterflies and 350 types of birds.
Once you locate the gorillas, spend up to one hour observing their behaviour in their natural habitat.
Later, return to your lodge for an evening at leisure.
