Following a delightful breakfast, you’ll head south, down the eastern coastline of the South Island, and cruise through the township of Oamaru, which is home to some of New Zealand’s most well-preserved heritage buildings. Next up, travel onward to the magical Moeraki Boulders. Here, enjoy marvelling at the geological structures that began forming over 60 million years ago. These boulders now stand along the beach appearing as if they’re physically guarding the foreshore.
Later on, pull into Dunedin with ample time to explore the unique Scottish-influenced city or rest in the comfort of your accommodation if you please.

Spend the morning strolling through New Zealand’s only castle, Larnach Castle. The magnificent castle gardens are a feast for the eyes! Jump back on board the coach and travel onwards to Gore. Stop off in this quaint town to learn about its colourful history with illicit whiskey distilling at the Hokonui Moonshine Museum. Hear stories about the Scottish settlers and their captivating tales of criminal pursuits and finish with a unique tasting of Old Hokonui made using the original recipe.
As evening begins to fall, drive to the day’s final stop, Te Anau – a gateway to Fiordland and Doubtful Sound. Enjoy the rest of the night at your leisure.
After a delicious breakfast, get ready to take off from Te Anau to Manapouri. Once you arrive, enjoy a leisurely cruise across the shimmering lake to West Arm and then a short drive along New Zealand’s most expensive road across Wilmot Pass. Make a short stop to experience the lush Fiordland rainforest and bask in the sparkling views of majestic Doubtful Sound below. As you board a modern catamaran at Deep Cove, prepare to be swept away by the sheer natural beauty of the incredible mountains and rippling water’s surface.
With only a handful of boats on the water at a time, Doubtful Sound offers a serene escape characterised by total tranquillity. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some local wildlife, from penguins to dolphins, as you enjoy relaxing in the sound. At the end of the cruise, travel onwards to Queenstown, your home for the next two nights.
With no planned tour activity today, take your time to explore Queenstown at your leisure – it’s a true adventurer’s paradise. Loved for the vast array of thrilling activities up for grabs in and around the city, spend your day plotting all things adreneline-pumping or take it easy discovering the incredible beauty of the city as you please. The choice is yours, whether you jump aboard the iconic ShotoverJet or join a tour around the gold-mining region of Skippers Canyon. Chase the best views of the city at the top of Bob’s Peak by gondola and perhaps enjoy a delicious lunch at the Skyline restaurant (additional costs apply). Kick things up a notch with a visit to the bungy jumping centre get the heart racing, and watch other people completing their own jumps. Slow things down with a leisurely stroll around the lakeside, enjoying a refreshing drink and some time out in the lush surroundings.
Once you’re finished with a delicious breakfast, marvel at terrific scenery as you travel through Arrowtown, a historic gold-mining town with a picturesque appeal and fascinating story. Travel onwards to Wanaka, one of New Zealand’s most popular and beautiful lakeside towns, where you may choose to enjoy lunch against a magical mountain backdrop (additional costs apply).
Set out once more with the chance for scenic stops along the way, including a walk along the enchanting Blue Pools Track. Make your way north towards the small town of Haast on the island’s west coast, famed for prime seafood delicacies, such as crayfish and whitebait. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed site is home to the Haast River, spectacular beaches and breathtaking lookouts. Here, you’ll enjoy a dinner with the group at the hotel.
After breakfast, begin to make your way north along the coast of the Westland National Park to the home of the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. Stop at the Fox Glacier and have the option to join in on a gentle 2.6km walk around Lake Matheson. Bask in the glorious beauty and natural history of this region which was shaped by dynamic glaciers, and boasts lush rainforests and verdant mountains. Famous for crystal clear mirror views of Aoraki Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, this lake is a serene spot for a stroll.
Later, arrive at the town of Franz Josef where you’ll spend a night surrounded by verdant rainforests and mountains, finishing the picturesque day with a delicious group dinner.
For your last full day on tour, depart from Franz Josef after breakfast and make your way north to the creative town of Hokitika. Visit one of the town’s greenstone and glass-blowing factories where you can admire some of the region’s finest local craft. Continue onwards to Greymouth, a town historically linked to jade and gold mining. From here, board the exciting TranzAlpine scenic train – considered one of the world’s best one-day train journeys. Let the spectacular forest vistas, rolling hills and snow-capped mountains take your breath away aboard this glorious scenic route.
Once your train journey is complete, travel to your comfortable hotel in Christchurch to enjoy a final group dinner to farewell the tour.
