This afternoon, the ship anchors off Fernandina, one of the most active oceanic volcanoes on the planet. Step ashore on a stark lava landscape that feels freshly made, where flightless cormorants nest along the shore, and the islands’ largest marine iguanas gather in dense colonies on the black rocks.
