Following breakfast and lunch preparation this morning, you’ll journey into Litchfield National Park to visit Tolmer Falls, Green Ant Creek, Florence Falls and the Buley Rockholes. You’ll be walking approximately 5 kilometres today, so be sure to wear lightweight cotton clothing, a hat and sunscreen.
Climb to the lookout at Tolmer Falls to witness the majestic beauty of the plunging waterfall. Continue to the meandering Green Ant Creek walk, and keep an eye out for the region’s incredible flora and fauna. Colourful red-winged parrots, double-bar finches and kingfishers are abundant in the area. Afterward, continue to Florence Falls, a spectacular double-plunge waterfall that leads to a large waterhole surrounded by monsoon rainforest. Keep an eye open for the termite mounds – architectural feats complete with tunnels and nursery chambers.
This evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant (guests’ own expense).
After breakfast today, you will head east towards UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with the oldest living culture on Earth in this incredible environment, home to billabongs bursting with wildlife, 25,000-year-old rock paintings, tumbling waterfalls and ancient sandstone escarpment country.
Upon arrival, you’ll visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre to view artefacts and authentic art which illustrate the stories of the traditional owners of Kakadu.
After lunch, cruise the well-known Yellow Water Billabong as you unearth the secrets of these ancient waterways, where you could spot saltwater crocodiles, buffalo on the floodplains and sea eagles in their natural habitat.
Later, settle into your accommodation before heading out for a local dinner.
Today you will journey to Arnhem Land for an unforgettable cultural day hike. Along the drive, spot saltwater crocodiles as your expert driver and guide educates you on the rich culture and history of these untouched plains.
Your first stop is the Injalak Arts Centre, where you will meet your local Indigenous guide and begin your trek to Injalak Hill. Enjoy lunch atop the rocky escarpment for dramatic views over the flood plains and escarpment country, before a quick return to the Arts Centre, with time to browse and purchase artworks made by local artists.
This afternoon, let the serenity of Kakadu envelop you as you’re guided through woodlands and dark ribbons of rainforest to Ubirr, an Aboriginal rock art site dating back some 20,000 years where you can see fascinating examples of traditional x-ray art and representations of important Dreamtime ancestors.
Be sure to bring along plenty of water today, as a big day of walking lies ahead. This morning, head to the amazing Nourlangie Rock art site and embark on the 12-kilometre Barrk Sandstone Walk. Embrace the beauty of your natural surrounds as your guide leads you to the ancient Aboriginal rock paintings of Nourlangie, home to some of the most astounding rock art in the Top End.
Enjoy your pre-prepared lunch before strolling around the Anbangbang Billabong. This steep trail is home to an assortment of birdlife including jabiru, brolga, magpie geese and spoonbills. Continue along the Barrk Sandstone Walk to the woodland at the base.
After the day’s adventures, head back to your accommodation to enjoy your final evening. Enjoy pre-dinner nibbles together before a two-course meal prepared by your guides.
Make the most of your last day in Kakadu National Park with a visit to the wetlands area, a bird watchers’ paradise. Enjoy a a lesurely three-kilometre walk and savour lunch on a viewing platform with vistas of the lush surrounds.
Bid farewell to this great UNESCO World Heritage-listed site this morning as you’re transferred back to Darwin, arriving at approximately 5pm.
