Tipping and gratuities are not included in the package and are at your own discretion (as a guide, approx. US$10-15 per person, per day is the industry standard).

Arrival and departure transfers are only available on the first and last day of the tour. Any arrivals and departures outside of these days will need to make their own arrangements to/from the airport.

Travellers should have a basic level of physical fitness and mobility and must be able to negotiate uneven surfaces, climb stairs and board boats.

Travellers are advised to check with their local health professional at least 45 days prior to departure, as some vaccinations require 30 days or more to be effective. Proof of vaccination is not usually required unless you are coming from an infected area.

Day 1 - Barcelona

On arrival in Barcelona you will be met and transferred to your hotel. There are no activities planned for today. This evening you meet your local leader and the rest of your group for a welcome dinner of local Catalan specialties.

Day 2 – Barcelona

Today you will explore some of Barcelona's wonders. Visit one of Antoni Gaudi’s architectural icons, the Sagrada Familia. Gaudi dedicated most of his life to this project before his death in 1926. This extraordinary building is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Your tour also takes you into the narrow medieval streets of the Gothic Quarter, home to the city’s impressive cathedral. It's also where you'll find La Boqueria, a colourful public market that dates back to 1217. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is at your leisure.

Day 3 – Barcelona - Madrid

Today we take the high-speed AVE to Madrid. On arrival we are met at the station and transferred to our hotel for a chance to freshen up. Next, we head out on a walking tour through of the Old Quarter of Spain’s capital ending up at the Plaza Mayor, and the marvelous iron-and-glass San Miguel market, where locals have been trading since the early 19th century – enjoy an evening amongst the locals at the tapas bars of the markets.

Day 4 – Avila – Segovia - Madrid

On a full-day trip you will discover the UNESCO World Heritage-listed art cities of Ávila and Segovia. The ancient city of Ávila sits on a hilltop and is famous for its well-preserved city walls and 90 towers that date back to the 11th century. As part of your guided tour, you’ll learn about the striking medieval walls, towers and gates that dramatically surround Ávila, while in Segovia, you'll discover some of the country’s best Roman monuments. The impressive aqueduct originally spanned 16 kilometres and had 118 arches, and remnants are still visible today. Segovia’s ancient medieval fort is also striking. The Alcazar served as a royal palace for many years.

After a full day of exploring some of Spain’s best historical sites, it's time to return to Madrid and an evening at leisure.

Day 5 – Madrid – Cordoba

This morning you get the chance to view works by Spanish masters El Greco, Velázquez and Goya in the Prado Museum.

Next we take the AVE south to city of Cordoba, where Muslim, Jewish and Christian influences are present in the architecture, culture and cuisine. Cordoba is also home to the Mezquita – a rare site which has served as both a mosque and a cathedral throughout the centuries. Today a cathedral stands within the centre of this amazing mosque – an interesting example of the interplay of Christian and Muslim cultures in Spain.

The rest of the evening is at leisure.

Day 6 – Cordoba - Granada

This morning we discover Cordoba and its supreme architecture on a comprehensive guided tour which continues outside of the Mezquita and explores the charming quarters and hidden corners of this stunning town. Afterwards we learn more about the importance of olive oil production in the Andalucía region by visiting an oil farm outside of Cordoba. Let the passionate owner of the family-run business walk you through the process of olive oil production. Here there will be the chance to taste the different olive oils too.

After lunch we continue on to Granada one of the jewels of Andalucía and after checking in to your hotel the rest of the evening is at your leisure.

Day 7 – Granada

After breakfast, take a guided tour through the incredible Alhambra Palace, one of the world’s great architectural masterpieces. Dating back to the 11th century and taking its name from the Arabic word for 'red castle', Alhambra represents Muslim art in its final European stages. The dominating red fortress towers, sumptuous palace decor, multitude of architectural styles and magnificent gardens of the 'Generalife' (literally meaning ‘architect's garden’) are all set against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains. With soothing pathways, fountains, impeccably-maintained hedges, pools, centuries-old defensive walls, turrets, and views overlooking Granada, Alhambra is certainly very memorable.

The afternoon is free for you to discover the other highlights of Granada, such as the cathedral and the Albaicin Quarter.

Day 8 – Seville

Farewell Granada and head for Seville this morning. A town famous for its cultural vitality and dazzling architecture, Seville is the largest city in southern Spain.

On arrival, explore the city, on an included guided walking tour. You'll see the Alcazar of Seville, a grand royal Palace. Known as one of the most beautiful in Europe, the Spanish royal family still to this day use the Alcazar as their residence in Seville.

This evening you join your fellow travellers for dinner and a flamenco show in the evening.

Day 9 – Jerez – Cadiz - Seville

A full-day excursion from Seville takes you south to the city of Jerez de la Frontera. With its ancient Alcazar (Moorish fortress), eclectic cathedral and huge selection of excellent tapas bars, Jerez is an undiscovered gem in the heart of Andalucía.

In this region, this town is synonymous with sherry. We visit a small, family run business in the location where sherry has originated and take the opportunity to sample the famous local drop and lean the difference between your olorosso and your amontillado at the private tasting.

We travel back to Seville and the evening is at your leisure.

Day 10 – Seville – Lisbon

This morning you farewell Spain with a transfer to the airport for your flight to Lisbon. On arrival you’ll be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel for check in.

Europe’s second oldest capital, Lisbon is an effortlessly elegant city, full of old-world charm and this afternoon you enjoy a tour of the city with your local guide, winding your way through the city, passing rows of houses in warm shades of orange, yellow and rust red. Discover Portugal's capital, colonised by many civilizations through the centuries including the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Moors and finally the Portuguese after 1147. You will visit the Castle of Saint Jorge and the surrounding area of Alfama, Lisbon's oldest quarter.

The evening is at your leisure.

Day 11 - Lisbon – Sintra and Cascai

This morning we visit one of Lisbon’s oldest bakeries and try the famous Pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart) before we head out of the city to experience the natural and historical beauty of Sintra and Cascais. Just a few hours from Lisbon, Sintra is a magical place where man and nature exist in perfect harmony. Discover secret caves and trails at Pena Park, admire the natural wonders of Sintra Natural Park and the cliffs of Roca Cape, and visit the whimsical Pena National Palace.

Continue along the Atlantic coast to Cascais Beach where we enjoy a stop for lunch (own arrangements) and a wander around Cascais town and bay.

Heading back to Lisbon, this evening we enjoy a traditional live Fado experience - the national song style of Portugal which is protected by UNESCO. Listen to the Fado singers over dinner at one of Lisbon's most famous venues.

Day 12 – Lisbon - Porto

Today we drive to Porto, a city that provided a nation with a name and a fortified wine known throughout the world simply as port. With its splendid geographical location on the mouth of the Douro river and an architectural heritage of exceptional quality, the historic center of Porto was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1996.

Enroute we visit the whitewashed medieval town of Obidos - considered by many to be Portugal’s most beautiful as well as the Abbey of Alcobaca, the largest church in the country, and the 14th century Abbey of Batalha, whose intricate honey-coloured exterior belies its charming interior.

After a chance to check in to the hotel, we enjoy a tour of the city with visits to the Cais da Ribeira, the quayside of the fascinating Ribeira district, and some of the city’s most beautiful monuments including the opulent 19th century Stock Exchange, the Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace.

Day 13 – Douro Valley

Today we indulge in the world-renowned wineries of Portugal’s Douro Valley. Visit two stunning wineries nestled into the valley, each with their own sweeping views and high-end wines. Learn about the vast array of varietals grown and fermented here, including Portugal’s legendary Port wine and ‘vinho verde.’ We speak to some of the winemakers themselves to gain insight into the local cultivation practices.

After a delicious final lunch together at one of the regions best wineries, we head back to Porto for our final evening.

Day 14 - Tour ends

Your tour comes to an end today with a transfer to the airport for your onward travels.

The tour begins in Barcelona and ends in Seville (or in Porto on the extended tour).

Your international flights from Australia are not included in your package. Flights to Barcelona from Australia will typically take a minimum of one stop and approximately 22 - 25 hours, departing from most major cities with Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Emirates, Qatar Airways and more.

An international flight between Spain and Portugal is included in your package if you take the extended tour option .

You MUST complete your booking form within 48 hours of booking. Following its completion, our Tours Concierge will be in touch to assist with any additional arrangements – including flights.

Private return airport transfers are included in your tour on the first and last day only. Please arrive into Barcelona before 4pm on Day 1 and depart Seville anytime after breakfast on Day 10 – or from Porto anytime after breakfast on Day 14.
