Holiday like the rich and famous sailing on your very own private catamaran around one of Australia's most beautiful treasures - Queensland's dreamy Whitsundays and the famous Great Barrier Reef.

As captain of your ship, you can enjoy the luxury and freedom of creating your own itinerary. The ocean is your oyster with 74 beautiful Whitsunday islands waiting to be discovered - not to mention the incredible UNESCO World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef which is teeming with tropical fish, turtles, dolphins and even whales (during whale season), ready to swim alongside you. Sail during whale season (June to early September) and experience these beautiful, majestic creatures up close as they swim and breech beside your private catamaran.

Haven’t sailed before? That’s no problem – you’ll be provided with a full briefing before departure, with options to take up additional sailing training for novices, giving you absolute confidence to skipper this charter holiday yourself.

What You’ll Love…

The Freedom – No itineraries and fully self-catered

Sail through the Great Barrier Reef and tick one of the 'Seven Wonders of the World' off your bucket list. Invest in an underwater camera to capture the incredibly colourful fish and stunning coral formations of the reef's remarkable ecosystem.

Schedule your sailing adventure around the time of the year that suits you. November to February offers the best sailing conditions; April through June for the mildest conditions; or choose to witness the spectacular whale-watching season from June to August. The calm and protected waters of the Whitsundays create the ideal environment for Humpback and Pilot whales (and occasional Migaloo) to give birth to their young. As a result, magnificent whale sightings are extremely common. Winter in the Whitsundays is still wonderfully warm.

Want longer to explore? Up to two packages may be purchased and used back to back, giving you ten consecutive nights / 11 days onboard.

Create your own menu and have your provisions delivered right to your boat by Whitsunday Provisioning or pick up your provisions from the local Coles, IGA or Woolworths - there's also a bottle shop conveniently located in the same building! While on your trip you can catch your own meals each day and cook up a feast in the onboard kitchen. Picture yourself, cool drink in hand, as you cast a line waiting to catch the night's feast!

We recently completed 14 days aboard Portland Roads. The boat is fully equipped and for the six of us was very comfortable with plenty of room and facilities to enable a magic cruising experience. Having limited sailing experience did not prove a problem as we operated under diesel power much of the time with occasional use of the jib. The comprehensive pre-departure briefing and ongoing twice daily support from the company gives great reassurance and confidence that provided you are conservative and follow instructions you can be assured of a totally enjoyable and problem free experience. We cannot recommend a holiday aboard Portland Roads highly enough and would like to thank management and staff for making our dream holiday a reality. Mike S

Sensational! The team at Portland Roads are second to none... The boat was sensational in all regards... The briefing was concise and informative, the location... We'll, sublime and exquisite seem somewhat inadequate! Best Whitsundays bare boat trip ever... and it's far from being my first! Portland Roads will definately be my first port of call for any future charters.

I cannot believe how brilliant this holiday was. Even the booking process with John was so much fun. Then we met Mike. He is such a great guy and handled our rookie crew with care and laughter during the briefing. He is so passionate about his boats and the Great Barrier Reef. What followed was my favourite holiday ever. I've done my fair share of traveling but this takes the cake. I am land-sick already and want to go back out on the water again on (my boat) Portland Roads. Thanks everyone - Very Special

This has been on my bucket list for years. I found a deal on Luxury Escapes and what more can I say. My bucket is ready to be filled all over again. Portland Roads was amazing, the Whitsundays extraordinary and our briefer Mike was a delight. I have never holidayed in the same place twice, this is all about to change. As my daughter said - Best Holiday Ever - Thank you, thank you, thank you.
