What You’ll Love

The Resort – Located directly on the Great Barrier Reef

Nature expert Sir David Attenborough said that the Great Barrier Reef is his favourite place on earth, and at the southern most tip lies Heron Island. As one of the only resorts situated directly on the reef, Heron Island serves as an idyllic sun-drenched nature retreat that showcases sandy beaches with crystal clear waters and an endless garden of coral perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving - just step off the beach and right into the Great Barrier Reef.

Heron Island Resort is an Advanced Eco-certified resort which has been built to minimise impact and maximise an understanding of its unique natural environment. Imagine sipping on your complimentary nightly sunset cocktail while experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a clutch of baby turtles (check for hatching season before booking your trip) waddling into the water.

The Room – Only a short walk to the beach

Embrace your natural surrounds when staying in a Turtle Room located on the ground floor. These rooms feature a queen-size bed, en suite bathroom with shower, tea and coffee-making facilities, a cosy indoor seating area and a furnished private timber deck that looks out across the tropical gardens and is also just a short stroll from the beach. As part of the eco ethos, there's no air-conditioning, just ceiling fans. And you can seriously unplug from the stresses of the hyperconnected modern world as there's no television, Wi-Fi or mobile reception. Make sure to turn on your 'out of office' because you won't be checking your work emails at Heron Island. Instead you can look forward to reconnecting with the kids or your special someone while enjoying nature at its absolute best.

The Food & Drink - Daily breakfast, dinner for two, picnic experience and nightly drink

Fuel up for a fun day exploring the island with daily buffet breakfasts served at the resort’s in-house Shearwater Restaurant where you can tuck into tempting options such as bacon and eggs, cereal, fresh fruit, juice, tea, coffee and more in a tropical setting. Surprise a loved one with a romantic picnic experience with a complimentary gourmet picnic hamper and bottle of wine for you to enjoy anywhere on the island (we highly recommend heading to the sandy shores for a picnic on the beach).

Your escape also includes a buffet dinner at Shearwater Restaurant featuring delicious meats, salads and delightful desserts (Saturday nights include a fresh seafood buffet!). You'll love unwinding each evening with a complimentary drink of house beer, wine, a cocktail or softdrink.

The Location – Australia’s natural wonderland

Described as 'one of the most extraordinary places on the planet' by Sir David Attenborough, the Great Barrier Reef is home to a dazzling array of native wildlife ranging from reef sharks and hordes of multi-coloured tropical fish to charming turtles and resident birds.

The island boasts an information centre, dive boats and marine biologists who can guide you through the unique coral reef and point out the native birds, plants, turtles and sharks that call Heron home.

See & Do – Discover the island with an I.Spy semi submarine experience, variety of complimentary resort activities & AU$100 resort credit

Make the most of your magnificent surrounds with complimentary resort activities including daily guided reef walks (subject to tides), island ecology walks, guided birdlife walks, engaging wildlife presentations, snorkelling lessons (in the swimming pool), nature presentations, trivia night, and even marine documentary screenings.

Your escape also includes an incredible I.Spy semi submarine experience for two adults and two children, so you can explore beneath the waves and see the vibrant marine life in their natural habitat. You'll also receive an AU$100 resort credit to use towards food and beverages or choose to spend it on any of the resort activities.

Stay seven nights and receive a BONUS sunset cruise where you'll glide through the waters of the Great Barrier Reef while enjoying a cheeseboard and wine.

Perfect for everyone

The resort is perfectly suited for all type of travellers, from couples seeking island romance, to families in search of sand, sun and fun. Those seeking a little adventure should grab some snorkeling gear and head out to one of 21 dive sites located within 15 minutes from the island.

“Our stay on Heron Island was beyond awesome. We stayed in a Reef room very close to beach and had a beautiful view from our room. The entire time on the Island we could hear birds chirping and it was so relaxing. The staff were the nicest and most helpful people we met on our trip. In the evenings we would have dinner and it was always a variety since it was a buffet. At the bar we saw an amazing band called Beautiful Mind. Tony and Nina played a variety genres. It was so relaxing while sipping on a drink. They were so interactive with the audience and we felt so lucky to be at Heron Island watching them play. Both are such talented musicians. It was incredible. Overall Heron Island will always have a special place in our hearts. It is a must see. The Great Barrier Reef was spectacular and seeing the turtles, sting rays and sharks was a highlight of our trip. We would love to return some day again.”

“Follow in the footsteps of Sir David Attenborough and immerse yourself in nature on land and in the waters around this magical island. Watch huge turtles come ashore to lay their eggs and snorkel with nemo and small curious sharks and rays. Share the island with thousands of seabirds and enjoy great buffet food, world class diving and friendly helpful staff. The animals are the stars of the show here, and the resort is comfortable and unpretentious. I would definately come back and I highly recommend to everyone.”

“Quite simply the most amazing place on Earth, if you love nature. Sea turtles, sharks, stingrays, fish, corals, birds and much more. We stayed in a family house (two adults and two children), which was close to the pool, the restaurant, the bar - no noise, though. Wonderful spa. The two nature guides (both marine biologists) arrange various free walks and the junior ranger programme. And obviously the snorkling and the diving is great!!!”
