The world’s longest flight is mind-blowing in so many ways – 18 hours in the air, over 15,000 kms flown across the globe. But perhaps the most mind-blowing fact is just how comfortable and relaxing Singapore’s Airline longest flight is.

Everything about this trip is thoughtfully designed to make the 18 hours as relaxing and restorative as possible. The Airbus A350 has been built with higher ceiling, larger windows and cabin light settings to create the perfect ambience for rest and relaxation.

The route leaves Changi Airport, Singapore late in the evening and arrives in New York city 18 hours later at around 6am in the morning local time.

Plan the perfect itinerary for your flight to ensure you arrive feeling refresh and ready for the Big Apple. One of the cool things about this route is that you will experience a night, a day and another night. That’s two sunsets and one sunrise. It’s a great idea to follow this rhythm to set your itinerary and we’ll show you how below.

The first few hours

On boarding, you’ll be greeted by Singapore cabin crew and shown to your one-of-kind Business Class seat or pod. This will be your home for the next 18 hours so it’s worth getting to know all that it can do. Your seat is a generous 71cm wide and is handcrafted with super soft Scottish leather. It reclines 135 degrees, but there’s also a convenient foot nook to stretch out in as well, next to that is a handy mirror.

On one side of your seat is the control panel for your chair and lights and so on. On the other is a generous retractable table and a side console designed to give you easy access to stow your laptop.  You also have access to Singapore’s KrisWorld Inflight Entertainment System (IFE) on your 18 inch screen. You’ll find noise cancelling headphones next to the table compartment.

Singapore crew will provide a small snack and drink to enjoy while you settle in and get ready for take off.

First meal service

Not long after take-off, the first full service meal of your flight will be served. Singapore Airlines worked closely with wellness experts Canyon Ranch to produce a menu that will nourish you throughout the flight and help you adapt your sleep patterns.

Enjoy your dinner with a movie, or a podcast or maybe just some relaxing music. There is over 12,000 hours of entertainment to choose from on the ultra-long range flights.

Relaxation and bedtime

You’re now a couple of hours into your flight and it’s time to think about turning in for the night. This is where your comfortable seat steps it up a level by folding forward into a totally flat 198cm long bed.

Pull on your complimentary slippers and snuggle down.  You can of course choose to watch another movie if you’re not quite ready for bed. Each seat has several customisable lights so you can control the atmosphere in your pod. We recommended putting on your eye mask and drifting off to sleep.

Rise and shine

Most people are surprised by just how long they sleep on the 18 hour flight with 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep fairly standard. Cabin crew will wake you around the 10 hour mark in preparation for the second meal service. Make sure you put your Do Not Disturb light on if you want to sleep through.

When you wake it’s a good idea to get the blood flowing with a walk up and down the aisle. There are also guided stretching exercises on the IFE system designed to re-energise the body. Convert your bed back into a recliner so you can enjoy your dinner and a movie in comfort.

By now you are over 11 hours in and the sun will have set on your short day. Your about to begin your second ‘night’ in the air.  The next few hours are time to nap or enjoy another movie or podcast, music or game on your IFE system.

Don’t forget to stay hydrated and you can always order from the extensive snack menu at any time. By hour 16, it’s time to prepare for landing. Take another walk and use the bathrooms to refresh yourself.

Cabin crew will begin preparations for landing and before you know it, it’ll be touch down in New York.
