Eat: Dishes crafted with locally-sourced fare

This diverse region is a goldmine of fresh produce, including sought-after black truffles, fresh seafood and world-class wines. Seek out restaurants, wineries and lodges that make locally-sourced ingredients the hero of every dish.

Wildflower, Perth: Ascend to the rooftop of COMO The Treasury in Perth for contemporary cuisine with city views at Wildflower. Its farmer and forager-driven menus are inspired by the indigenous ethos of six seasons, resulting in dishes such as raw shark bay scallops with watermelon radish, beach banana, Geraldton wax dressing and frozen ginger juice and wood grilled Arkady lamb with garlic emulsion, turnips, saltbush and eucalyptus.

Millbrook Winery, Jarrahdale: The menu at the award-winning Millbrook Winery is informed by availability from its 90-year-old orchard and heirloom vegetable garden, with a ‘no waste’ policy that sees guests sharing dishes crafted with ingredients leftover from the weekend service every Monday. The winter menu includes dishes such as orange jam with crumbed duck hearts and pickled fennel and pumpkin and ricotta tortellini with rainbow chard and parmesan, paired with complementary Millbrook drops.

Cullen, Margaret River: Amidst the vines and peppermint trees sits the restaurant of Cullen, a winery in the celebrated Margaret River region. From its humble beginnings when the family served up cheese platters, pastries and soups with its wines in the 1970s, today the winery offers two-chef-hatted cuisine, using fruits, herbs and vegetables sourced from the on-site biodynamic garden.

Upper Reach Winery, Swan Valley: At Upper Reach Winery, you’ll get a real understanding of what it’s like to grow grapes and make wine. Stroll through the vineyard, discovering grape varieties that make the Swan Valley special. Start or finish your tour with an a la carte breakfast or a leisurely lunch overlooking the vineyard

Want to experience Upper Reach Winery for yourself? Purchase a WA Luxury Escapes holiday package and book a winery tour with breakfast or a two-course lunch at check out.

Drink: Wine in Margaret River

With more than 200 vineyards, Western Australia is one of the nation’s largest wine regions, producing more than 25 of Australia’s premium wine including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc – with 15 of its finest premium wine produced in the Margaret River region.

Moss Wood: Moss Wood in Wilyabrup is one of the founding estates of the Margaret River region and dates back to 1969. Today, the winery produces varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Semillon and Merlot.

Si Vintners: Head to Si Vinters in Rosa Glen for pure wine free from pesticides, fungicides or chemicals.

Ashbrook Estate: The family-owned Ashbrook Estate has been so for more than 40 years, with all bottling and packaging done on-site to maintain the quality of the wine produced with grapes grown and handpicked on the estate.

There’s also gin: If you’re looking for a little wine hiatus, the Giniversity at the Margaret River Distilling Company is a must not miss for the gin buffs out there. You’ll learn the artistic flare behind the art of distilling with a hands-on distilling experience that’ll teach you about balance, precision and measurement – and of course, taste.

Margaret River: Head to Hamelin Bay to see incredible stingrays bathing in the shallow crystalline waters. These tame creatures aren’t afraid to come right up to shore in search of a fishy snack, meaning visitors are rewarded with some spectacular sights.

Or explore by foot: Much of the natural beauty of the Margaret River can be explored by foot. The famed multi-day Cape to Cape Track is the longest walk – sitting at 140km – taking five or six days end to end, with the spectacular landscape, pristine beaches and uninterrupted coastal views making it all worth it. The track rates easy to moderate depending on the particular section and boasts some striking sights along the way. Don’t miss the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse where visitors are rewarded with 360-degree views of the glistening Indian Ocean and the surrounded capes.
