We all have that draw at home, you know – the one that’s filled with the complimentary mini toiletries you’ve swiped from hotel rooms and the in-flight amenity kits handed out on airplanes.
We take them home, convinced we’ll put them to good use. But more often than not they’re left to expire, forgotten in the bottom drawer of the bathroom.
An innovative Australian charity has found a way to turn these toiletries into a force for good – collecting and distributing these toiletries to those who need them most.
Established with the specific purpose of supporting people in need and the belief that every Australian should have access to a toothbrush and a bar of soap.
While there are many facilities that provide laundry and shower facilities, most are able to supply little more than running water and previously didn’t have regular and reliable access to basic toiletry products.
Every Little Bit Helps supplies donated hotel toiletries, airline amenity kits, make-up and cosmetic samples, and sanitary items to the homeless, asylum seekers, victims of domestic violence and troubled youths – in order to provide them with not only the essentials, but also a little bit of dignity.
These products are donated by airlines, hotels and individuals that travel regularly.
You can help by sending your unwanted toiletries to PO Box 340, Forestville NSW 2087.
Alternatively, the charity has drop-off locations (little red bins) throughout Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, ACT and Sydney. Click here to view drop-off locations.
