Langakwi Island

A striking archipelago of 99 islands decorating the bold blue waters of the Andaman Sea, most people know Langkawi for its stretches of white sand and abundant underwater nirvana filled with colourful sea life. And, while that’s all true, this striking part of the world—aptly named “the Jewel of Kedah”—has so much more to offer. With over sixty per cent of Malaysia occupied by lush rainforest, Langkawi Island offers an array of experiences for the adventure-addicts and nature-nurturers in us all.

Glide above the treetops

With unique, gondola-style cable cars boasting glass floors that hover high over the jungle’s treetops, it’s no wonder why Langkawi Cable Car is one of the island’s most popular experiences. Ascend to the peak of Machinchang Mountain experiencing incredible panoramic views along the way for an experience unlike any other. Plus, when you reach the top, you’ll find the world’s only functioning postbox atop a mountain.

Ziplining in Langkawi

Zipline in the forest

Is there anything more exhilarating than zipping through the treetops of the world’s oldest rainforest? With over 12 zip lines—with some reaching up to 200 metres long—Umgawa Zipline Eco Adventures will have you experiencing a thrilling adventure with blissful views of waterfalls, towering rainforest canopy and striking the Andaman Sea beyond. If you’re really nervous, book the Honeymoon Zipline – a double line where two people can fly together.

Canyon down waterfalls

An incredibly mountainous island covered in rolling, untouched rainforest, Langkawi is ideal for adventure sports like abseiling and canyoning. 69 Degree North is an outdoors adventure operator that takes adventure-addicts canyoning through Durian Perangin Waterfall – an incredibly exhilarating rainforest experience for those who love true adventure.

Island hop by jet ski

There’s nothing more adrenaline-pumping than flooring a jet ski across crystal clear waters as you explore islets, limestone caves and turquoise lagoons – plus it wouldn’t be a Langkawi experience without at least one water-based activity. Multiple companies provide four to five-hour long jet ski tours that’ll have you experiencing island excitement in a safe, group setting.

Walk above a mountain

Often named one of the world’s most spectacular bridges, Sky Bridge is the longest free span and curved bridge in the world. Floating atop Machinchang Mountain, the suspended bridge is held up by an 82-metre-high pylon and is designed to offer an ever-changing view of the virgin forestry beyond with its subtle and continuous curve. The Sky Bridge is the ultimate experience for those who want to increase their heart rate while witnessing one of the most spectacular views of the island.

View from Gunung Raya, Langkawi

Climb Langkawi’s highest peak

A hiker’s heaven, Langkawi boasts hundreds of hikes and trails, taking you from coastal bliss to dense rainforest and everything in between. For a more difficult hike and one that’ll have your heart rate skyrocket; Gunung Raya – Langkawi’s tallest mountain – sits as number one on the list. At 881 metres, this tough hike will have you trekking through thick forestry bursting with unique wildlife like leaf monkeys, flying foxes, mountain hawk eagles and of course great hornbills. Trust us, the view from the top makes it all worth it.
