Dreaming of an escape that’s out of this world? How about a holiday that is literally in outer space?
Thanks to NASA, you might be one small step closer to that dream!
NASA recently announced that the International Space Station would be available for private citizens to visit as early as next year. Up to two short-duration private astronaut missions could be accommodated per year, with each mission lasting up to 30 days. The catch is, you have to make your own way there. A trip to the International Space Station isn’t available just yet, but Boeing and SpaceX are two companies who are already developing capsules to take private citizens to the ISS.
But before you start planning your space-age getaway, we should tell you that space exploration doesn’t come cheap – travellers will pay an estimated US$58 million (approx. AUD$83 million) just for the airfares alone. Each night spent on the space station will cost you an additional USD35,000, which will cover your food, water, life support and more. Plus, anyone wishing to go on one of these missions would need to meet all of NASA’s medical standards, as well as undergo the training and certification procedures required for all of NASA’s space crew members.
So start saving your dollars and amp up your fitness routine, because a space-age holiday could be here sooner than you think!
