During your stay, a visit to Namale’s award-winning spa is a must. Nestled into volcanic cliffs and offering stunning sea views, you’ll find ancient healing traditions on offer, including traditional Bobo massage. Firm massage techniques are complemented by a blend of exotic oils, promoting circulation and drawing out toxins in a stimulating yet relaxing experience. Travelling with someone special? The dedicated Lovers Spa hot tub is a heart-shaped haven where you can relax and rekindle the romance.

Guests have the choice between staying in a tropical ‘bure’ (Fijan for home) or a luxury villa. Benefit from luxe touches such as daily replenished mini bar, plush signature robes and freshly baked cookies waiting for you at the end of every day. There really is no place like your bure…

EAT… Fresh seafood

Fiji has some of the freshest, most delicious seafood on offer and staying at Namale Resort means all-inclusive gourmet dining. The resort boasts the Main Bure restaurant, where you’ll take most of your meals, and Walu, a more casual affair for people on the go.

Wake up to a delicious breakfast of smoked salmon crepes, Indian scrambled eggs served with roti or fresh fish with spicy coconut chutney. Lunch is a five-star three-course service including dishes such as yellow lentil soup, grilled prawn salad and steak sandwiches. Dinner will delight your senses with an incredible five-course tasting menu, incorporating fresh, flavoursome ingredients and serving up everything from T-bone steaks to Asian-braised chicken and wholesome salads.

The experience is all about you, with a four-to-one staff to guest ratio ensuring you’ll be well looked after during your stay. If you’d prefer to dine in the comfort of your room this can easily be arranged, as can a pre-dinner cocktail or bottle of bubbly on your private terrace.

While on Vanua Levu, you can also dine at some of the island’s best-loved restaurants. The aptly named Surf ‘n Turf sits waterfront and offers tasty fresh fish and a sunset bar for drinks. It might look a little rustic from the outside, but it’s the laidback island’s take on fine dining and has bagged itself the #1 spot for restaurants on Vanua Levu. Also popular are Captain’s Café, a top spot for pizza, and Tale of Hidden Paradise Restaurant, serving Chinese, Indian and Thai fare.

EXPLORE… As much or little as you like

Fiji is an island of many faces, offering both energetic and relaxing activities during your time here. Namale Resort alone has more than enough to keep you occupied on Vanua Levu, from a morning spent on the golf course to ten-pin bowling in the games room or canoeing, paddle boarding and snorkelling in the azure waters. You can even try scuba diving under the guidance of professional instructors.

If it’s culture you’re after, head to the Wasavula Ceremonial Site, where you’ll find a sacred monolith that villagers believe grew from the ground, and the Naag Mandir Temple, housing a 3m-high Cobra Rock, which locals place offerings at and believe can cure the sick.

The Waisali Rainforest Reserve is a wonderful spot for nature lovers and home to thousands of bird, flower and plant species. Take the half-hour walk to the waterfall – it’s well worth it.

After long days of exploring (or relaxing) spend the evening in one of the island’s natural hot springs. Some are so hot the locals cook food in them but the Savusavu Medical Centre has therapeutic baths at a manageable 40 degrees Celsius – perfect for winding down.
