Canggu is an unexpected Eden of green; empty rice paddies with a serving of coffee shop utopia on the side.
This trendy adornment in the fringes of Kuta houses some of the friendliest locals and expats you’re likely to come across – which will make it close to impossible to ever, ever leave, which is why so many don’t…
Previously referred to as ‘North Kuta,’ Canggu (pronounced CHanGOO) has won its battle to be referred to by name, and now firmly holds its own with some of the best coffee shops, spas and sweet sunset Bintang spots.
We’ve listed some of the trendiest places you need to add to your itinerary when visiting Canggu!

Crate is an Aussie-run, open front coffee shop with their own version of the Nalu bowl. Try the mango and lime frozen smoothie bowl with a side of an over-sized iced latte. Note – closes at 3pm.
Not vegan? Please, DON’T keep on walking. Peloton Super Shop, a push-bike come vegan café close to Berawa beach, won’t leave you craving meat or dairy. Coconut and cashew are the house milks here for coffee, and their breakfast burrito with scrambled tofu and cashew cream is fantastic.

Gold Dust Bali is the golden ticket when it comes to pampering, and the best spa in Canggu in our humble opinion and it is only a short ride up from the beach. Try the deep cleanse facial, and when you’re finished and suitably glowing, grab yourself a smoothie bowl and iced latte from Crate.
If it’s a fierce, strong, traditional local rub down you’re after, try the Balinese massage with Ayu at Serenity Eco Guest House or the Therapy Spa on Echo Beach.

All walks of Canggu life (canine included) correlate at Old Man’s, a big, open-air bar at Batu Bolong beach on the approach to sunset.
Happy hour between 5pm and 6pm brings in the post-surf crowd, and watch your sunset tipple gleefully escalate into sunrise.

Whether motorbikes and tattoos are your thing or not, Deus Ex Machina, a bike shop-turned-restaurant, won’t escape your peripheral if you spend more then any amount of time in Canggu. Shop, eat and admire the shiny bikes daytime, or get down and dirty with the motor-heads on one of their infamous Sunday night sessions.

King of the fresh juices and wholesome lunch options, visit Betelnut’s newborn sister The Shady Shack for matcha lattes and avocado toast in their cozy shady garden, reserving a small space for lunch where you can cross the road and turn the corner to indulge in round two at Betelnut! The burritos here changed our lives.
