Visiting the stunning new Bannisters property in Port Stephens will be super easy for New Zealanders thanks to Virgin Australia’s new direct route between Auckland and Newcastle.
The inaugural flight takes off on November 22, marking the first international flights in and out of Newcastle, NSW, in 16 years – and conveniently coinciding with the arrival of Bannisters’ latest property in nearby Soldiers Point.
Bannisters Port Stephens celebrates its grand opening this month and is located just a 30-minute drive from Newcastle Airport.
Virgin Australia will fly between Newcastle and Auckland three times a week with Boeing 737 and the seasonal offering will run until February 17 2019 – although the airline says there is scope for extending, dependent on demand.
The last direct services to Auckland ran in 2001 and 2002 with New Zealand-based Freedom Air.
Currently, flying internationally in and out of Newcastle requires a stop-off in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.
The new Bannisters property will no doubt welcome the prospective influx of tourists from New Zealand.
A sister hotel to the iconic Bannisters by the Sea and Bannisters Pavillion in Mollymook, the Port Stephens property is the luxury brand’s largest offering to date.
It boasts a rooftop Terrace Bar and infinity pool and is also home to one of celebrity chef Rick Stein’s hugely popular restaurants. Guests can also make use of The Tavern, an on-site pub with TAB and large beer garden.
