Located two hours north of Cape Town in Paternoster, Wolfgat is a tiny rustic, beachfront venue located inside a 130-year-old cottage. Six members of staff with no formal training serve up a seven-course tasting menu for just R850 (approx. AU$85) per person, with dishes focusing mainly on local seafood and enhanced with wild herbs, seaweeds and succulents. Some courses also feature lamb or venison.
Some of the elements on the tasting menu take weeks of preparation, while other ingredients are handpicked on the day for the exact number of bookings received.

The restaurant’s head chef, Kobus van der Merwe, forages for ingredients along the Atlantic shore and his freshly made bread served with butter is always a hit with diners.
